I spent a week putting Zaino on my Cobra. Followed the instructions to the letter. The car looked great and I mean really great. Very deep look, smooth slick finish, fantastic. After three months during which it was washed weekly and additional coats put on I started noticing spots on the frontend. Every time I washed the car I would find more spots left after I washed the bugs off. These spots would not come off with Zaino car wash or Zip or even DAWN. I finally had to use a polishing compound and glaze to get the front end cleaned up. It looked like the bugs were leaving a stain in the finish of the car. This never happened to me using other waxes. Emailed Zaino and was told to use 3M Swirl mark remover and then wash the car with Dawn and start the polishing process all over again.
I DON"T THINK SO!!
Going back to my 3M show car glaze and Liquid Glass. Now if I could just get back the money and the time I spent on this stuff.

Bugs seem to come off fine but they leave a faint shadow in the finish. You probably could not see it on anything but a white car. Problem is mine is white.

Thats why I like to stick with Meguiars. They've been around for alot longer than Zaino and are more trustworthy. wonder why the zaino polish would leave marks though. Hmmmm.....:doubt:

I like and only use mothers on my cobra.... and I always get comments on the cars finish. I can't see spending that kind of bank on something that I can't buy locally. maybe thats just me, but o-well.
bugs???? what are those? I don't have any of them around these parts these days

Yes but Meguiars is a wax and will start breaking down long before Zaino will, which is a polymer based polish. You also can't put but 1 coat on your car with Meguiars but you can put multiple coats on with Zaino. They may look the same (or close ) when applied but soon the wax will break down and you will have to put a new coat on more often than you would with Zaino.
And the Z-2 show car polish from Zaino cost $12.95 the same as Meiguars Gold Class, so its not cheaper. With having to use Meiguiars more often, Zaino maybe cheaper in the long run. IMHO

Try the new Meguiars with that is synthetic polymer. I think it is Meguiars NXT. Nice stuff and only $14.95 a bottle. Used on my Chrome yellow after the polish and clay bar. It is great!

Does the new Meguirs NX have anything to repel dust/pollen?? I used the clay bar, cleaner wax, then the gold class (all Meguirs) but the car is black and it seems to collect pollen and dust like a magnet.

Not to my knowledge. I don't know anything that has something like that in it but, if you ever find something let me know...cause even on yellow it shows..especially when you sit in the driver's seat and look at onto the hood!

Amen to that! Traded in the black for a red, but the bleeping pollen ruins the look on any color - not to mention the havoc it wreaks on the sinuses :(

I'm glad to see other Meguiars users on here. I was beginning to think the whole Cobra crew was sold on Zaino. I use it because my husband says so! The cars all look good either way, but the Zaino sounds like an awful lot of steps. All I know is I really want to wash and wax it this weekend. I just want it to be clean and shiny again :bawling: I hate this pollen!!! :bs:

I used to be a die hard Meguires guy. I had a black Olds Cutlass Supreme convertible that had sheet metal galore! I liked the way it look after first waxing but here on the west coast it just didn't hold up. To make the car really pop I had to wax monthly. When I bought the Cobra I kept hearing about Zaino on this site and others. What sold me was someone posted a link to an Acura NSX thread in which those guys tested Zaino against several waxes for easy of use, durability and shine. They waxed a spare hood and let it sit outside for a couple of months. They had separated the hood using tape into four parts and waxed it with different products. They felt Zaino maintained the best shine for the longest period of time, kept water beeding the longest, etc.
Now this was done before the new Meguires product so I don't know how that compares. When I Zaino'd my car I downloaded and printed all of the directions and hints and FAQs. I followed them to a T. I wet the applicator with the spray detailer like the hints suggested and used the accelerant (sp?). I did my entire car start to finish (wash, interior, and two coats of Zaino) in about three hours. For me the process was very easy. I think the trick is do not over apply it. The little two ounce mixing bottle will do two coats of wax.
It's been on the car about a month now and the car still pops. Water beads up big time.
The Carnuba waxes will produce a good shine but at least here on the left coast I found that the just do not last. I don't want to spend time waxing I want to spend time driving..... :burnout:
Anyway thats my free advice and its worth exactly what it cost! :D

On that note...there is a website out there with all the how-to's on wash/polish/wax. Visit www.autopia.org This is where the Ferrari/Porsche and so on people go for advice. Now with that said...I did exactly as they said with Meguiars. I used a wax remover and took everything off my car...so, it was as if I started brand new. I then clay barred the whole car. That in itself makes a HUGE DIFFERNCE. Then I followed with Polish. Then a spray of quick detailer all over. Then the NXT Polymer sealant wax. Followed by Quick Detailer again. Then the Carnuba Wax. Then quick detailer again. All told it took about 10 hours! But let me tell you...my car looked terrible before as I had let it go a bit, when I was done it was absolutely beautiful. I mean it looked as if I could actually stick my hand through the hood..it looked like I just opened a can of paint. It was that good! If you do that once to twice a year...and then quick detailer every so often..you will be amazed. Now the issue is the Polymer Sealant wax will last much longer than Carnuba..so, do that first then Carnuba on top for a shine that will blow you away. I did not believe it until I did it...I kept going outside just to look at my car...that is how WOW it is!!! :jawdrop:

just wanted to let you know that something similiar happened to me with my '98
(top right on the Bulletin Board, Blue Cobra vert) ----
anyway - mine wasn't bugs, but I kept getting "spots" as well ... after lots of research, months of crying --- etc. etc. I finally stripped it and used "vinegar" - the paint was being affected by some water stains that I was not able to remove with the Zaino ---
this time -- I got them all off,
redid the Zaino and for almost 3 years now ---
no spots have returned and the paint looks brand new.....
 :bounce:

===========
I didn't realize that pollen could be such a problem --
but I guess its worse in the south?
anyway - we purchased Trigger from NC in 1999 --
it finally came down to the water spots (you couldn't really see them) the pollen, pollution, etc. had affected a few spots on the car and the more Zaino I applied over it, the worse the spots would become!
The
ZAINO !!!
was telling us something and the research and getting it fixed saved us from having to get an expensive paint job done....
Thank you Zaino !!!!!!! :bounce:
the zaino,
is probably telling you something.........

--------------
if the Zaino steps are followed correctly --
the original "steps" are worth it....
I have done Zaino on almost 20 different cars in the past 5 years ---
I have used most of the other products including McGuires....
Zaino - in my comparisons, and on the comparisons and tests I have looked into --
is excellant!!
I have not had to take my '98 back down to nothing in almost 3 years now, and it looks like a brand new car, except for the couple of scratches that have been put into it the past few years....
the paint is beautiful, and I owe it to Zaino --
I wish I would've found Zaino sooner ---
it would've saved me allot of time and money

I found the thread where the NSX guys tested several waxes. It does not include the new Meguires product but here it is anyway....

thank you!!
I will take a look at it --
we did our own test and I'm devoted to Zaino, but I know things change from one day to the next - and I'm open minded.
I do know that stripping the car down to the bare paint is highly worth the work if your paint is "telling" you something..
 ;)
whatever you use ---
do it, do it right and do it often and check your work  :bounce:

Wow! Lots of good advice on this thread. Rick, we used Liquid Glass on ours before heading to Orlando for the YMR gathering last month. It not only looked great, but the "love bugs" :banghead: came right off. For youins up yonder who don't know what love bugs are; if left on...they will etch the paint to the metal  they are that acidic!! For all you pollen sufferers :doh2: , you can always do what we did...trade black for Yellow!!  LOL

I use meguires regularly, I have just about all the wax products including the #27 yellow wax which really looks great on Black. Recently I got new wheels for the car and needed a quality wheel cleaner. I have used P21s many times which works great on painted surfaces (wheels that is). I decided to try the wax product as well. I am not pleased with the results as it seemed a bit on the gritty side. Then of course it was below 40 degrees when I waxed it. I prefer the meguires products and had many compliments on how deep the color looked at the car shows. I have even tried that black died wax thinking that would make it look darker, nope, but it did turn my hands a different color. I have used Liquid glass on another vehicle but it left dark and light spots in the paint. I used to be a mother's product user, but found Meguires to work much easier even the 3 step wax. They are about the same quality. I am thinking of trying Zymol but so far the cost seems a bit steep. As for pollen, that is hard to avoid, The best thing is to keep the car in a garage for a day after waxing it so that the wax has a chance to dry completely so that pollen will not stick to it. I usually follow up a wax job with detailer mist prior to any car show. Nothing beats the mirror shine in black paint - which really makes taking pictures difficult.
