New Pads and !#@$% please help......

I just got new Hawk HP-Plus pads on the car and #$#$ it is nothing short of embarassing to drive!! This thing squeals like nothing you've ever heard!

I am sooo glad I got some dark windows on the car, cause I dont want anyone to know who is driving the thing. EMBARRASING!!

WTF is up with the noise? These are Carbon Semi-Metallic pads--- is this common?

I got the pads for the track day, but damn....they gotta go soon, I cannot drive this thing around town at all....no way

on some previous cars I've had, they seemed to squeak for a short period of time. I felt the same way.

Most any new hipo pad will have some squeal to it. I use Performance Friction Z pad because they do not squeal as much as the others. Don't hide when you get on the track because if your brakes are squealing then you are doing something right! Poke that chest out and make everyone believe you are a racer! ;)

Like Tony said....all "hi-po" pads are going to sound that way. They are going to produce a TON of dust as they chew your rotors up, but you will notice a 50% difference in stopping power at CMP once you get them heated up to their operating heat range. Just leave them on until CMP. Gotta love that metal to metal grinding sound!

The HP+ shouldn't be bad on your rotors. Now if you went to a Hawk Black or Blue you'd have rotor wear issues when they are cold. The HP+ is about the last step in Hawk's pad line that you can run on the street as well as the track without serious rotor wear issues when cold. Better braking on track means more noise and dust on the street. Just a fact of life with brake pads. :)

I will leave em on until CMP but they will be removed ASAP.....just too noisey for my taste. I knew I should have went with the PFZ pads ;(

The PFZ pads arent much better on the street if you dislike the noise. I ran PFZ pads at CMP last year and wouldnt do it again. They didnt fade but but I think they were hotspotting the rotors. Cooling ducts would probably have helped, but I still havent gotten around to that project. You could always swap pads out at the track and run something like the HPS on the street.

I run the Carbotech Panthers on track and don't have much squeal at all. Instructor at VIR was amazed I could stop my HEAVY car so well.

If you run your HP+ pads on the street, try using more agressive braking (keep some heat in the rotors). It seems they squeal the worse under light braking. So go in hard and brake like crazy....you may have to supply the guy in front of you with toilet tissue.

According to Larry at Carbotech the Panthers shouldn't make much noise on the track or the street, they will also dust less compared to an HP+ and still be decent to your rotors when cold.

I put in brand new Powerslot rotors since the Brembo's were pretty well worn with 75,000 miles on them.

But the Brembo calipers and 13" size of the rotors did the job for me.

The Hawk HP-Plus pads are a high-bite track/street pad, and, yes, they are hard on rotors. May I suggest Hawk in HPS compound, or SBS in Pro-Touring or Pro-Track compounds. All are good bite/rotor friendly.

If you must use the HP-Plus, try painting the backside of the pad backing plate with a copperlube paste. The squealing comes from high frequency vibration of the pad backing plate against the caliper pistons....:)
