As you may or may not know California has installed a new "touch screen" voting system (in order to avoid the whole "floating chad fiasco".

So I go to the polling place this morning and guess what.... the voting system was down. They were having technical difficulties and told me that I would not be able to vote at this time....come back later. I ask them about a backup system, they tell me there is no other method for voting. One of them is on hold to "technical support." I know your thinking this sounds like a joke, where's the punch line...but this is absolutely true!

As I am leaving and muttering language unfit for virgin ears one of the volunteers comes running out of the polling place and tells me I could go to another polling place and vote. So I ask them if the "other" polling place is one-line.... they don't know, they don't have their phone number.

So I ask them for directions... drive to the new polling place, fill out forms to cast a "provisional ballet" and vote.

The system is cool, touch screen and all but there is no paper trail (ok that's the accountant in me)... so if someone contests the vote how are they going to recount???

Was this voting system made by Microsoft????
:D
