Harnesses on a budget...

I'm looking for camlock type harnesses and want to find the cheapest place to get them. Any ideas?

Ordered from Adam Curpier. These guys are ECHC racers. Very freindly, great customer service (which is always worth a price premium - it's an added bonus when they have great customer service AND good prices).

I know this isn't "budget", but the new Sabelts are FIA rated until 2009 - yes, that's right, 2009. The larger investment early on may be worth it - you can take these into the AI car you WILL build someday and get years of use out of them.

I have the Sabelts (albeit, the older ones) in my car now and LOVE THEM.

Yup, I got a 5 year patch on mine.

BTW...SCREW at 99+ Cobra and installing harnesses. Took us 6 damn hours for just the lap belts. The lap belts mount to the seats, not the body of the car. And................the bolts that hold the seat belts to the seat bracket are WELDED on. We were having to install eye bolts for "snap ins" Who the hell at Ford came up with such retarded stuff. We had to take a Porta Band and cut the bolts flush with the belt plate, then drill the things out. Then 6 bits later they were out. What a pain in the $%#.

Well, I have lapbelts, I can only imagine how fun the sub belt is going to be. :)

6 point Impact Racing belts mounted OK in my 99. The outside lab and sub belts mount in where the factory belt goes with eye bolts and snap ins. The inside mounts required a plate with eye bolts- a little welding (but I didn't do it :) ).
The G-force black 6 points (~$70) were not in stock at the time so I went with ~$100 belts at Impact. At first I wasn't happy about the higher cost, but I like the construction and the yellow lightening bolt on black looks good. I did have to order longer straps for the subs to fit over the stock seat.

Did Ford change the way they installed seat belts from the 98's to the 99+ cars? Putting the lap belts in mine and Jay's car was a piece of cake. Remove the seat, unscrew the seat belt bolts and replace with eye bolts. Sub belt took a little drilling, but was still pretty easy. Were you tipping a few back when you did this Craig? ;) :D

fwiw, scca rules indicate on the harness that they should be replaced every two years ( a change from every 3 years) with an sfi rating of 16.1.

fia systems should not be older than 5 years (shuggs post till 2009 works if the harness set is new in 2004).

the webbing material deterorates over time and use or an "incident".

Yeah, it changed in 99. It's not attached to the body of the car anymore on the inside pickup point. The outside pickups were just the #50 Torx of course, but the 99+ design is mounted to the damn seat (and the bolt is welded in). It's retarded. The strongest thing I'd had that day was a Diet Coke :)

What are you doing with the car ?? Keep in mind, if it is a street application, they must have a DOT tag, if for competition, they must have an SFI or FIA tag.
And like "Kevin" said, they have an expiration date.....don't buy something that is useless to you.

LOL! Thanks for the reply, but since this thread was created, I've already stripped the car down, built the roll cage, installed the harnesses mentioned above, tore up the track at CMP, let Tony pass me, cut out the roll cage, put the car back together, and bought a '79 coupe to start all over again. :D

You've been pulling up some pretty old threads lately. Most of the threads your posting on are over 5 months old. Most guys have already done what they've talked about in their original post...or in Tom's case, have just started over. ;)

I take it from your reply's you're into open tracking/racing? You're certainly in the right place for that. Some Cobra club members race their cars (Bryan Shugg, Dean Smeltzer, Will Sadler, John Pearson, and other's) and most of the other's open track their cars. Hope to see you at a track event some day soon! :thumbsup:
