View Full Version : My car hates CMP (broken already)

Filled up the gas tank before heading out to a novice autocross school I am helping with and the car started pissing gas out of the place where the fill neck goes into the tank. Damn car knows its going to CMP again and is giving me crap for it. I gotta go help with this autocross school then figure this out. Anyone replace that seal before offer some hints? The tank is full except whatever leaks out while I am gone.

Hey Calvin I know what you mean. My car must hate it also, I went to have the car tuned yesterday and when we got it on the dyno we discovered the fuel pumps aren't working correctly. When the rpm's get over 6000 the pumps take a dump! I will have to get an '03 tank and pump to fix the problem. Only one thing, I can't get them and have them installed AND the car tuned before next weekend. SO I'M OUT! :( :( :(

Sorry to hear about your probs Joel. You'll get it resolved.

You're out Greg? Go buy a cheap, used N/A car and bring it down.

It's a thought...

Sorry to hear that :(, you could get a V6 rental and flog the hell out of it! :D

I am dropping the car off at a friends shop tonight. He said he has time to get it finished in time. If I didnt have school after work I could probably get it done myself but right now I am just streched to thin on time.

Hey Greg...with 6bazillion horsepower...why would you need to rev the car above 6k rpm? Bring it anyway and just shift at 5k rpm. ;)

You can get Foci very cheap...even the SVT's are going at good prices. I got mine for $5200 off the sticker with every option they come with. Do it...and maybe Tony WILL give us our own run group! :D

Hope you gets things squared away Joel!! :)

To tell the truth I was thinking about running it and short shifting but whats to keep the pumps from completely going out or worse slowly dying and me not realizing it until the engine detonates. I love open tracking but not enough to risk the engine! :D ;) SO I'll just be taking care of the car this weekend and I'll try to make another event! :D

Well it's still not out of the question. I'll be going to T&J performance Friday morning to get the tank, pump, new belt and an alternator pulley (some one bent the one that's on it). Then he has to tune it. If I can leave there by 5:00 pm I may make the weekend! I'm just not counting on it right now. I may still come by the track on Saturday afternoon to see everyone! :D

We just decided to do something (food) last night. I'll fire up the grill if people want to put in some cash for Steaks and/or Chicken. Then we'll fire up some movies on the widescreen and drink a few cold ones. And of course....the hot tub is always fired up. Just something to do if you don't wanna sit in the hotel room all night.

I had already invited everyone to come over anyway. You must have missed that post about a month back Tony. Jeff certainly saw it because I told him to bring swimtrunks. We didn't decide to cookout until yesterday. I'm working 70 hours a week right now so it's hard for me to get messages out to everyone.

John, $5/head should cover it. Unless everyone is wanting marinated ribeyes. :D

That is hilarious that you mention that. I told him that I was going to put him in the fastest car out there and I mentioned you. I told him I couldn't last more than a couple of laps at Road Atlanta with you and Jimmy agreed when I told him that. Ed said he's ready! We'll see... :bounce:

Well, that sucks! Any way to add anything like caulk or something to the seal to safely plug it?

Calvin_1976
03-10-2004, 12:42 PM
John said the same thing. I dont know if thats going to work or not. If its coming from the same place its the gromet that the filler neck passes through. Its going to need to flex a little so either the caulk would never seal or it would restrict movement and just tear the gromet. I need to check out the vent tube also. Once I get the wheels and tires out of the car at lunch I am going to top off the tank again and run it around a couple left hand turns to see what happens. If its just seeping a little but not pouring I might not worry about it right now and just run it.

Now.....Someone's gotta help me figure out how to mount the damn sub belt to this POS before Saturday. I don't know if running without the sub is the best idea. Tom looked at it tonight after he got done with the subframe connectors and he's baffled. The 99+ Cobra's are hell in every respect of the word. :(
