My karting season opener was Friday night and it went very well...I finished first in my class!!! :bounce: :bounce: This was my first win and I am very excited!

I changed the setup over the winter after only racing about 10 times last August and September when I first got into karting and man did it work. The track was very damp due to 2 inches of rain during the week so my experience of pitching the Stang sideways really helped. It was true dirt track racing with some fun bumping and banging and turning right to go left.

I'll post a few pictures of the kart soon.

It's dirt track karting and I ran in the Medium and Heavy class this past week. I won the heavy class which is the class I usually run. I run mediums sometimes to figure out what the kart is doing that night and then make adjustments. I can run it on asphault as well but haven't had the chance to do that yet. It is a blast for the amount of money I spend!! :D

WOW! That sounds really cool...cheap...something a college student could get into. I wonder if there is anything around here like that? Got a website? and some pictures of the kart?

NC has a lot of dirt tracks that cater to karting. When I was younger, I went the asphalt road course route in karting. There are a lot less tracks of this nature in my area. I hurt my back my third season in, so I had to take a break from it. When I was ready to go back, my funds would not allow it, so I sold the kart. It was great fun.

I never thought there was a situation where the Miata would be Goliath.

I spent about $1600 to get into karting with the purchase of the kart that was ready to race. The package came with 2 sets of wheels and tires and some spare parts. I spent another $600 on a trailer to make life easy with trasporting everything. You can get race ready karts for $1000. It depends on what you get...newer is obviously more money but better technology with easier chassis adjustments. The best part...if you blow a tire...it costs $40...blow an engine...$350...crack the body $125 for a brand new one. You can't touch that in any other form of racing which is why I do it. It costs me $10 for a pit pass and $12 to race...about $2 in fuel and $1 in an oil change. I prep my tires which costs about $2 a week. For the money it is an absolute blast! Will it cure your need to open track and hang out with your friends...ABSOLUTELY NOT...which is why my wife and I occasionally get into arguments about my motorsports hobbies. ;) Here are some websites...

There are lots of tracks down south. I plan to bring the kart down sometime this year. I'll let you know when if you want to check it out.

Well, I finished 5th last Friday. I got screwed on two restarts and had to have a talk with the timing and scoring officials. We don't have electronic timing and scoring so they sometimes make mistakes...it's not a professional series so we don't complain too much...but I did last week because I was running very well once again. I made it up to third (after starting 7th) and when the caution came out I was shuffled back to 6th on the restart for whatever reason. With only two laps to go I could only make up one position. I definitely had something for the leaders, just didn't have a chance to show them after getting shuffled back.

I sold my kart. A received an offer I couldn't refuse so I sold it. I will be running it this week before the guy picks it up and then deciding whether or not to get a better kart for the rest of the season. I have the chance to pick up a cool open track car for the same price so I'm a little torn. I'll keep you guys posted. :D

What do you say we take my money...put it toward a solid (pushrod-sorry John, had to go there) engine and have some fun racing and open tracking the car? :bounce: :bounce:
