Hey guys,

I have an extra set of Miata wheels lying around and I was thinking about getting them powdercoated. I already checked with a local place in town and he said they would do it for $50 (I have already sandblasted them and cleaned them up).

My only concern is that the heat generated while baking the wheels may weaken the wheels? I just don't want to be on track with these things if they decide to let go...

Does anyone have experience with this?

Dave

I think you concerns are well founded. This thread was on Z06vette.com a fellow on there had a set of powder coated rims that cracked on him. They had been powder coated twice. The left front rim completely seperated from the hub while he was on track! He was fortunate enough to slide it into the grass and not hit anything. His right front had cracks in all five spokes also. If these are steel stamped rims not as much of a concern but if they are any type of cast wheel I would be concerned.

My $0.02 worth.

Just use VHT wheel paint. If you take your time I have seen some nice results.
