Stereo recommendations

Just got my 03 black cobra and disappointed with the sounds. My 94 cobra sound system was better. Anyone got any recommendations waht to put in place of the large ford cd changer and whether is is a simple plug and play job?

I hate to sound generic, but anything decent, aftermarket will sound better, Alpine, Eclipse, Sony...

You might wanna replace the speakers and possibly the amps also. Most units "Should" have a harness that plugs aftermarket up to the factory wiring.

Isnt the sound system in both the 94 and 03 Mach 460? I didn't think that was changed?

Even though they are 460 sound systems, somewhere along the way Ford changed the stereos to make them sound different by adding base or taking out treble or other small changes. My personal opinion, since I own three Cobras :), is that the 94 sound system is better then the new sound system. But then, that's just my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.

Also, it seems to me that the 94 Mach 460 sound system turns up louder then my 04 sound system. Factory to factory stereo, I think Ford has one of the best sound systems. Aftermarket may offer more but then I'd rather hear the tunes from the exhaust... lol. :rotf:

Point well taken. I have the bassani cat back and X pipe and it does sound great. Now all I want is the colon shaking bass !

Well i have a 99 cobra. I took out my mach 460 and put in a aftermarket head unit. hooked it up to the stock speakers.... sounds like crap. If you are going to do that you need to get new speaekers and rewire the car. cause the speakers now are run to the amp and most headunits have a amp built in so it sends the singal amplified to the aplifier so it really sounds like crap to me. I am going to replace all of the speakers in my car i was wanting to know of some good speakers to put in i know they are 6X8's in the rear and door pannelsfor my 99 not sure about the new stangs.

Isn't it possible to wire direct from a pre out to the onbaord amps? I thought the amops in teh Ford Mach System were great but the head unit is terrible. Anyone else repalced the head unit only?
