how would i go about waxing a black cobra. i heard that u cant wax in circular motions you have to wax forwards and backwards because it will creat swirls... im going to be using Mothers Californa gold orignial forumla Caranuba Cleaner Wax. is that suitable? thanks to all that reply

where did you hear that? I have alwase done my cars in a circular patern. I asked the guy who painted my car what was the best way to wax it and he said small small circular patterns. Also said that the liquid was a good idea becuase some times dirty will get on the rag or sponge you are using with the bowl of wax and they dirty from the spong will stay in the wax bowl. then when you go to use it again dirt on the car in a circular motion = bad paint job. But this is only what he told me. I alwase wanted to know about waxing windows. peopel say they do that i have never tried it. i just windex them along with my wheels.

My Cobra is right, you should use small circular motions.

If I were you, I would try a good polish instead of that wax.

The two best on the market IMHO right now are Zaino and Meguires NXT.

Zaino can be purchased online here (http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=Zaino) and is more expensive and take a little more time to put on.

Meguiar's NXT can be bought in most autopart stores. Here is the product page

Zaino also has the Z5 which is swirl mark remover that does wonder to get rid of swirls on black cars.

I would start off with the NXT and see if you are happy.

(make sure to properly wash, clay bar, then wash the car before applying either polish)

Zaino suggests a back and forth motion, front to back on hood, top and rear deck, top to bottom on sides. It worked for me on Miss Linda's E-420 (which I sold to buy the Cobra). She has just started talking to me again. If you follow all the steps suggested by Zaino, you can't go wrong.

now can i use that Meguiar's NXT, on the wheels as well or what. my wheeels werent kept in the best shape ( prev. owner ) and they are stained im guessin, how can i get these clean as possible, and goes for the engine as well. and what can i put on them to keep the break dust off. thnks :thumbsup:

i use windex on my wheels. keeps them shinny. then i use some allum. polish. works great. or i will take some of that orange stuff to the back of them to get them real clean. i know there is probley some high dollar crap you can use but i am a broke college kid so this is what i use to clean my wheels inbetween my ramen noodle meals.

today i bought the mothers clay, purple power degreaser and the meguires NXT tech wax ( or whatever its called ) at first i wasnt too pleaseed wit the mother clay but i think it was worth it, i noticed a slight differnce. the purple power did wonders on cleaning them stained rims.. and the NXT was great, i started and i was like WTF this **** isnt workin, now it looks like a mirror. my car is a 98 and has 78000 on the paint. who ever had it before me didnt keep care at all. but i was going to take pics but its late now. if pics are wanted i will take them. and thnks for the help guys!!! :thumbsup:

I read some where that waxing in straight line was a good Ideal. Front to back motion on horizontal parts. Up and down motion on vertical parts. Has something to do with light reflection , reflaction or something like that.

The best thing to use when cleaning the motor area is a paint brush. You could use the degreaser stuff, but car wash works just as well. Use the paint brush to apply the soap and to clean the engine parts, including under the hood and along side the fenders. Only use water under low pressure to remove the dirt and soap. It is a good thing to use leaf blower or compressed air to blow out the water from the motor.

On black paint, if the surface is really bad, then high speed polishing may be the only way to remove swirl marks and scratches. 3M has many grades of polish for that purpose, and only the light grades should be used. If you ever plan on buffing your car, and if you have no experience, practice on a different vehicle otherwise the end result will not be pleasing. Meguires X-out (scratch out) does not seem to do much. The NXT product works great. One thing not worth trying is the colored wax, the only thing you get is black hands and the scratches will remain as they were. One good product for removing wax is the micro-fibre towels. They are far less likely to hold dirt like terry cloth towels. A random orbital buffer works great too. Black paint is really hard to maintain since dust shows off very soon. However, it is my color of choice. The best results are achived with the clay bar after or during washing. No other color paint shines like black when it is polished up. As for washing, I found that the Mr. Clean soap works well (I only bought the refill soap and did not bother with the kit).

Ausie was right about being carefull useing a buffer. A high speed buffer can burn right thru the paint if held in one spot to long. I know because I have done it before.

oh yes, and i know of that oh too well my self, im only 16 and i guess i gota learn somewhere somehow, thank god it wasnt on my car :D , but i was with my dads friend that wasnt there too well ( a lil drinking was done ) and had that little incident..

forget about using the Mr. Clean soap by itself, if you let it air dry, you wind up with spots that are hard to remove. The only way to avoid water spots is to dry the car off by use of forced air or chamios. However, the Mr. Clean makes for a nice lub for the clay bar. The clay bar makes a huge difference since it cleans deposits off the paint.

Your pictures look nice. I have a 95 black convertible and it also is very hard to keep clean. I have used the regular Meguiars but not the NXT yet. I try to avoid waxing anything because I notice every little blemish, even some that were probably from the factory. From 5 feet I am very pleased, and my car only has 63K on it and has been garaged. I think that I am to picky to have a black car, but then again, nothing shines better when clean.

I tryed that NXT wax this weekend on my work truck(not my 04 cobra)to make shore it worked good.For a 99 truck that is never washed and the paint has lost some of the reflection it worked great:thumbsup: Now i cant wait for this coming weekend to wax the cobra(it black so it should really shine) with the NXT.

No freakin joke dude....seen how in a matter of seconds you can completely remove paint with the dealer-strength buffers :eek:
