does anyone here run the Nitto 555RII's for OT or autocross? I just picked up a set of 275/40/17's and was wondering what tire pressure I should start off at. With street tires of the same size I ran 38-40 front and 32-34 rear depending on conditions. I have been told the Khumo victoracers like similar pressures, but the 555RII's like less... but the person wasn't sure and has never run them. thanks for any experience/advice

Matt,
I would start off 36 front and 34 rear.. Every car is different

Matt,
I have used the Nitto 555RII's for about 3 years. 38-40 psi front works well for me. 34-36 rear is probably good for most track conditions. When I spun out of turn 3 at GingerMan last year trying to stay ahead of you, the tires were at 40 psi front and 38 psi rear. Installation of a panhard bar and a little lower rear tire psi keeps the rear planted and predictable now. Wish you were making the trip to Michigan this year so we could test it out against your '01.

Hey Lary, hows it goin?
thanks for the reply... thats exactly what I was looking for. I was on brand new Bridgestone Potenza RE750's last year... and for street tires I love them! I got a killer deal on the Nitto's so I had to give them a try for autocross/track. Tomorrow is going to be my first time running them, I'll let you know how it goes!
I wish I could make it to Gingerman again this year too, but things haven't been all that great this year. Next fall for sure!!! I can't miss it 2 years in a row =o)

well, I think they did pretty darn well! I started with 40 psi cold front and 37 rear... I ended up with 42 psi front and 37 psi rear with the best results. I had to keep lowering them to keep the same pressures as they heated up.
I thought I did well too, for my first time on real "R" compound tires that is. I came in second in class with the 4th fastest time of the day overall. FYI: the top 2 times were all wheel drive turbo cars on hoosiers, then 1 stang on 555RII's, then me.... thats right, we beat all those guys on the Khumo victoracers! The only 2 guys running 555RII's came in first and second place.

Way to go! Maybe you should have left the old license plates on the Cobra :D

LOL, yeah, I liked those ones... I was just nervous of getting keyed over them.
