Alright here we go, I am looking at a used 2003 cobra at a local dealership. It already has aftermarket parts installed (CAI, exhaust, shifter) but when I was talking to the salesman he said something sort of interesting. He told me the previous owner had installed a chip somehow ended up in "burning up the whole engine". Apparently the Ford dealership had to install a new motor but the salesman told me that since it is a new engine, the warranty on the engine has been voided. Sooooo, you get warrantly on the whole car EXCEPT the engine. Does this sound fishy to anybody else? Wouldn't a dealership have a warrantly on a new engine? I also noticed that the traction control and window defroster didin't work either, along with the drivers power seat. The car has 15,000 and they are asking $26,500. What do you guys think. I just kinda have a bad feeling about it. Any input would be appreciated.

You can still buy an 94 for about $29,5-$31k. I would go with a new one.....

LG200 is right. Why pay $26.5K for a used one with 15,000 miles on the clock when you can probably get a new one for 3-4K more. Or tell the dealer you'll give him $22K. Personally I would be a little concerned that the previous owner blew the engine.

NewFoundPower,

Go get an 04 Cobra with a full warranty and a new engine. I don't buy preowned cars that have been modified because you never know what went into the car. Others may do it, but I always look for stock cars that have never been modified. Right now, you can get a great price on an 04 Cobra. if you like, I can help you get one in NC since I live right here in the Charlotte, NC suburbs.

Thanks,

Tony

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking that it might be a better idea to just go ahead and get an 04 and after listening to you guys I think that is what I am gonna try to do.

Cobrabitn, what kind of incentives is Ford offering right now on the 04s? The Cobra I was looking at was at Capital Ford in Raleigh and they had a few 04s on the lot but I have not had the best experiences with that dealership. Any suggestions?

Once again, thanks alot guys. Spending upwards of $25,000 makes me nervous and I don't want to screw myself and the more I think about it, the more sense buying a new cobra makes.

Ok, I have been doing some research online and here is what I have found. The 04s are going anywhere between 32K and 36K. I did see that Ford is offering really good APRs on the new cars as well. The highest being 2.9 for 72 months and even though it isn't a huge help, I also qualify for the college grad discount ($400) as well (every little bit helps). It is seeming more and more like this is the way to go. I just talked to a dealer in Winston Salem and they have the exact one that I want (black) so we'll just see what happens. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Which dealership? There is an SCMC member that works at Parkway Ford (Don't know him personally, but he might be able to help you).

I talked to Regal Ford in Winston Salem and Capital Ford in Raleigh. Regal is offering the best deal so far but it would be cool if the SCMC member could give me some help. Thanks alot.

New Found Power,

Go to Parkway Ford and ask for David Phillips. Just tell him I sent you and he will get you the best deal. They have a new Redfire 03 Convertible they are selling for $32,880.00, so I would guess you could get a coupe for 3 grand less.

If you have a problem just call me and I'll chat with David for you. My number is 803-371-0725 or call David Phillips toll free at Parkway at 1-800-467-2469.

I recently bought a 2003 Cobra convertible from Tri-City Ford in Eden NC for $33,800.00 that was new and unsold with 76 miles on it. There are still some 2003's out there that can be scooped up at a bargain. Check with David Watkins and see if he can get you a deal.

I paid $33.8K for mine. I told them I could put $5K down on it. The salesman walked away then came back with the finance guy and said if I put $6K down they would give me 0.9% financing for 60 months. I jumped all over that one. Then I tried to chew them down a little more on the price and they almost through me out the door. OK OK!!!!..........Hay, I had to try :bounce:

Any dealer still holding an 03 anything will do anything to sell it.

That was what I was thinking to begin with Sniper. I just haven't seen any new 03s for sale. All I have seen are used ones. I'm gonna call Tri-City tomorrow and see what they can do as well.

I'm not sure if there are any 03's there, but they may be able to find you one. Tell David Watkins that I sent you. I'm Jerry Fowler. I wished that I knew how to post a pic on this forum. It's frustrating:mad:

You have to be a paying member of the SCMC. Otherwise you will need to use another service that allows you to post pic and put the link here. Fill out an application and send it in to Tony. It is not expensive and the benefits far outway the membership fee.

Have the dealership look on the locater and they will find whatever is left. I know Dale Jarret Ford had some 03s when we looked but there are not a lot of them. Contrary to popular belief though, they are not going to be cutting any "major" discounts on the Cobra anytime soon. Prices I've seen people quote here on new 03's are still well above dealer cost. The demand for them considering the number available is still high enough for the dealerships to sit on them. Now if you want a good deal on a Thunderbird, that is a different story since Ford is forcing the cars on the dealers whether they want them or not. Also, from what I understand, the gas guzzler tax still applies to the 03's but the 04 is exempt from it.

$33,800.00 is a pretty good price for a new Cobra ragtop, anyway you look at it. It stickered for $39,675.00. The mark up can't be very much more.

Sniperfox

And I believe that is about as low as you will see anywhere. That price is lower than the coupe MSRP.

Not bad. That should be getting close to the A & D plan pricing on that car, so that's probably about as low as they will go. The dealer will still make a nice profit even at that price, but you should be happy with that offer regardless.

You may want to check the For Sale Forum. I know David had a thread about 2 '03 Cobras they were selling at Parkway. I think both have been sold, but if I remember correctly he posted his cell number in that thread which would allow you to contact him directly.

I bought my 04 coupe about 3 weeks ago in Kirkland WA for about $29,400. A little had to tell for sure since there was an 04 WRX trade. Dealer had 5 on the lot, and 2 or 3 03's. Last week I say they were selling a yellow new 03 convert for 30,400!

Well guys, here is the latest. David has been really awesome. We have got me down to about what I want to pay a month for the car. The problem I have run into now is the same problem that NSANE ran into. Insurance is out of control. $178/m is what they are quoting me ($2100/yr). I have called around and listed the car as a "pleasure vehicle" so I hope that will make some difference. We'll see.

I just bought an '04 Cobra from Gene Evans Ford in Union City, Georgia for $29,950 and they have two left. Mine was a screaming yellow and they have a silver and torch red left. They were really cool and dealing with them was a breeze. I live in Arkansas and they FedExed the paperwork to me overnight. I know in Little Rock they have about (6) 03 Cobra Convertibles for $33,000. Ford has a $3,000 rebate on 04's right now until the end of September. The deals are out there you just have to look.

The price is no bargain..And I think the sales man is trying to sell a pig in a poke. You can do much better there will be lots of 03 coming available soon at a better price with low miles. Take your time.

I agree. I paid $33,800 turnkey price for my 03 Cobra convertible, so you should be able to get a great price on a coupe.:fordflag:
