Myself and a fellow GM worker agreed to put our cars to the test. This man has a couple of Corvettes and says he is getting the new Z06 in the Spring. I agreed to drag for the quarter mile at Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, Wisc. for a high wager. I believe I have the upper hand beacause of owning the Cobra and my drag racing experience.Although this man is in middle 50's, I do not take his age for granted.I know I have all Winter to get prepared, but just wanted everybodys input on this. This is for Cobra against Vette and I'm going to have about 200 fellow workers watching. I currently have Flowmasters and a JLT true air intake. Was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of a shot of NOS to help this situation out. Has anyone done this yet?? How much can I shoot safely?? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated..........Skill

well, em.. by new Z06, you do mean the C5 Z06 right...
If you are worried about it, just throw on a kenny Belle or a whipple and you're good. :D
N2O might be a good temporary mod to do the job, but.... you need it to be setup right and tuned right..
I'd say a pulley/tune would be my first addition, followed quickly by a set of Drag Radials (or ET Streets if you want to get real serious).
If the race is REALLY important to you, a KB/Whipple upgrade or a shot of N2O would be some nice insurance and make victory pretty much assured.
All of this assumes the Z06 will remain close to stock.
Please post more info when the actual matchup gets close to happening on ChicagoSVT.com. Sounds like something a few of us might like to see in person.

I agree, throw a Belle or Whipple on it and run around 15-16psi and you should be pushing somewhere around 575rwhp on pump gas! Good luck!!

The new vett has about 500Hp stock. It may have a lower drag coefficient than the Cobra. With a pully or a more efficient supercharger you could easily take it in the 1/4 mile as long as you do not blow a half shaft. That would be a shoot out to watch. The only advantage of the Vett over the Cobra in stock trim is a few more HP and lower weight. On the road coarse the Vett would probably be the winner (maybe). It may just boil down to gear ratio's.
I have a friend who is a chevey dealer who recently completed the driving clourse for the new Vett. The Vehicles they used to compare the Vett to were not best suited for the comparison. I guess their intentions was to compare the vett to a porsche boxter and a BMW M3. I can think of several other vehicles that would have made a difference but Chevey did not want their sales group bragging about other vehicles than their new flagship.
I took my part to introduce the new Cobra to the Chevy freak. I went over in my 04 to give him a ride home and he was impressed with it. All I heard from him was Holly S**t. In just a few miles he stopped talking about the new Vett. Considering the payload (passenger wt 520+) the Cobra did not seem to notice, but my friend did!
If you want a good race, just look at the new vett stats, and calculate how much HP/lb you need to achive your goal. Good luck and may the FORD win!

The new vette C6 has 400 hp.The new C6 ZO6 that will come out sometime in the near future will most likely have 500.

This really depends on which Z06 you are comparing too. The current C5 Z06 has ~ 355 RWHP stock and weighs ~3100 lbs. The C6 Z06 will be ~ 440 RWHP stock and weigh ~ 3000 lbs.
We have a Cobra and a C5 Z06. If it is a stock C5 Z06 then you will need a CAI, Pully, chip and exhaust upgrade and you should be able to take him easily. If it is a stock C6 Z06 you better upgrade your blower to a KB or Whipple.
If the Z is modded all bets are off in my book. Just headers will allow an otherwise stock C5 Z06 to put another 25 RWHP down or a 75 shot of giggle gas will jump it to ~460 RWHP!! The Z is tuned rich from the factory and really likes a 50 or 75 dry shot.
Our stock Z on Goodyear Eagle F1s with me driving (that is not a plus by the way) has run a 12.9. With good tires and driver these cars are capable of running low 12s on the stock motor.
Don't forget you are at an alomost 600 lb disadvantage against the Z. It takes a lot of ponies to overcome that!!
Good Luck and keep us posted!!

hp sells a car, torque wins the race.
