Hi everyone..now that I figured out the system, I need some help. Have purchase a 99' Red Rio coupe and wish to give it a fix to increase the HP. Was fixed by Ford during the sick year(s) and the mods I have added are Flow Masters only. I wish to get a "chip" but have been told by Hyperteck and Diablo dealers that my year snake is already maxed out. I have 25K left on the warranty, what else can I do?
Thanks..Great to be here.

Next steps are dependent on what you want to do with the car. Drag race? Road race? Show car? Daily driver? Trailer queen? Once you make these decisions, then there's a ton of information in this message board in the various specialty threads.

Hi! As for my performance desires, I am a part time road warrior. Need power for the occasional light challenger, freeway on ramp bulley, those pesky noisey rice burners..etc..I wish to have the car look pretty much stock until I push on the gas! Taking out my brother in laws new C6 would be fun... I contacted a Dyno Tune shop which wants close to $900 for a designer chip for my car. :doubt:

A chip at this stage of the game is basically useless. If you put a power adder of some sort onthe car then the chip becomes necessary. Nitrious is a quick way to get some power and a blower is another way to get more power of course you could go twin turbo and really turn up the wick. IF you are just looking for bolt on mods about the best you will get out of the car is 300 RWHP and 300+ Torque. Power adder well that would depend! :D ;)

What Big Daddy said. You can expect a maximum of 325 rwhp if you are lucky. Most of the time it will be in the 290's to 300. I recommend the following: ( I used to own a 1999 Rio Red Coupe too)
MAC OR H-pipe
MAC Catback
Steeda Underdrive pulleys
Lowering springs (I have a set for sale if you want them? They were on my 99)
Steeda IRS Bushings
KB Strut tower brace
Get a dyno tune and have them make the tune more aggressive and get the a/f ratio where it needs to be.
You do not need a chip, get the stock computer reflashed.
If you want more torque, get a set of long tube headers but stay away from the MAC long tubes. Go with a BBK or some other type.
That should pretty much put you in the 300's pretty easy. Welcome to the SCMC BB.
Good luck! :)

Welcome!
Don't really have anything else to add to what was previously said about upgrades though!

Something esle that might help you with a better hole shot would be different gears in the rear end, but I don't have a '99 so I made not know what Iam talking about.
Welcome to the board, if you have not join the SCMC you should think about it we are a outstanding group of people and do some great events.

Thank you everyone for the great responses and idea's. I will be taking the car to a dyno shop for a tune. The one thing I did not see or missed was a cold air induction kit? The car already has a K&N filter system, with a new tune for a/f ratio should I upgrade and what would that be? Also what is up with NGK Iridium plugs? One last thing, I think I have 323's shock, should I go to 373's in lieu of 410's since the fuel prices are ouchy..

Go for the 4.10's!
The difference between going from the stock 3.27 rear gears to 3.73's vs 4.10's is about 10%, which for a tankful of gas is something less than 2 gallons, or $5 at todays prices. And that's if you drive around in top gear all day. To overcome this apparent deficit while driving around on city streets in lower gears you can upshift at a lower speed (like 20 MPH rather than 25 PH in first gear) and get the revs back down to reduce fuel consumption. BUT, WHEN YOU NEED TO REALLY GO, THE 4.10's WILL SHINE!
Your next problem will be keeping tires on the rear!
And if you ever go for a blower, the rear end will be ready to really light things up!

Thanks for the response. Have checked out the 373 and 410. It appears that the 410 might require some other upgrades to keep the whole thing back there from going into pieces..something about different rotors/brakes? The fellar I spoke with didn't know if my snake could hack the extra torque with the 410's. Also since I might be going a "little faster" what type of radar detection devise should I get? Will be living in Tucson..

Hey RRH,
Welcome to the club :D
I have the Beltronics 985, and it has saved me some $$. In fact it has probably paid for itself. I don't have any complaints about mine. It's a radar laser detector.

RRH,
Mine is window mounted, I didn't get a choice. That was the only mount that came in the box with it. Also forgot mine is the 995. It's just an upgrade from the 985. Beltronics quit making the 985 and to replace it they now make the 995. I like having mine being window mounted because I can easily swap it out of my car and put it in my wifes car, when we take hers for roadtrips.

Glad I could be of some help. I don't know how alot of knowledge about the motors or the bolt on's for 'em. But stuff like that I will lend a hand when I can. I think you will be happy with it once you get it.
