Hey guys, new to the cobra world and have a chance to pick up one, convertable, for 25k. The only problem, and I might sound whipped but I'm really not, just keeping harmony, is the clutch feels like a 5000lb hayes and I know the wife, also a speedy, will cry about it. Is the stock clutch that firm on the pedal? I found centerforce makes a dual friction and alum. flywheel for around a grand. Gotta justify that though. Help please before my chance dissipates to own this big sweetie. thanx ,Tim.

For starters, the clutch is a heavey pusher. In fact, the 01 I used to own was much harder on the leg than the 04. I am not sure if the 03 has an aluminum flywheel but the 04 does. The pressure plate is what is so hard to move. You can easily find other SVT owners in a croud if they are wearing shorts since one leg is larger than the other one. :rotf: Actually once you get used to it, changing the pressure plate may seem a bit odd. I have had others drive the vehicle (on the occasion of tire replacement) and they often ask "how do you drive this thing?" They are referring to the clutch.

You get use to it. Just don't sit at stop lights with the clutch in the leg wears out fast.

timtaelor~ Funny story regarding the '03s clutch. Of course me being a FORD Cobra owner (in the past and currently) I'm used to a heavy left foot. However, when taking a friend's Nissan Sentra out for a quick errand I dented the floor panel as my initial push on the pedal was a tad excessive. :D That said, if your wife's used to a soft pedal she might not like the Cobra but as with anything that can be rectified (new parts or new experiences). Good luck!

I own a 99 cobra and a 96 mazda truck which is also a stick. After coming out of my cobra and going into my truck, i drive that ***** like a race car, the clutch pedal gets hammered into the floor LOL

When I brought my 04 Cobra home, my wife wanted to drive it. After stalling it twice she got 2 blocks and pulled over and told me to drive. Her exact words were, "How the hell do you get any enjoyment out of that?!?!" Clutch was too hard and she hated reaching to shift.

needless to say , she's my baby (and only mine) Can't get any better than that:bounce:

Ahh yes, the joys of not being married anymore :D . Actually I think my ex-wife would have been able to manage the clutch. However, she would have totally wrecked the car within a few weeks like she did with her new Accura.

When it comes to driving the alternate vehicle, I find myself trying to reach down for the stick shif and accidentially stepping on the parking brake pedal It takes only a split second to remember it is an automatic. I should have dropped a high performance motor in it when I replaced the rotating assembly (squirrel wheel and the nut on a string). Funny though, I still get better gas milage with the Cobra than I do with the Explorer. As long as the squirrels do not eat any more parts off the truck I should be fine this winter.

My girl LOVES to drive my cobra. I think it is great when she pulls up next to a Vet, Yip Yp car, etc and she blows them away. The look is priceless:bawling:. She takes it to the store all the time. I'm almost afraid if I don't get up before her she will take it to work....She would never do that but I amsure it has crossed her mind.
