so the engine is squeaking. almost sounds like a fan belt. i`ve taken it in to get it fixed they claim it was the throwout bearing, since i bought my car in aug they have put two new throw out bearings in it, & now the noise is back. has anyone else had this problem? if not do u have an idea of what else it could be? thanks clubbies.
ps. i`ll soon be posting a pic w/ me & my cobra. were both pretty damn SEXY!i call my cobra "sasha"

Can you describe the squeak a bit more specifically? do you hear it at a stop or only when you are driving, etc.

It most likely is the idler pulley, the bearing go bad and make a nasty squeeking noise. I had to replace all of my pulleys because of them going bad.

:) your killin me w/ that name. okay so idler pulley. will that require him to replace them all so that we can prevent this noise again? & while i got u here. are u supposed to hear a scratching noise come from the back of the supercharger? i hear it mainly when i 1st start accelerating. i have been told b4 that it is normal. so,m your in nc? did u go to the meet how was it? im in st louis, theres nothin ever goin on here.

This is Dave B. did you see my post about Billet idler pulleys??

do you have billet idler pulleys?
did you buy the car new? or used?
if used we need to find out if who ever had it before you differant idler pulleys on the car,

If you got it new, and if you have not changed any of the pulleys, ny next question is how many miles on the car?

and does the noise go away at any time and what time would that be if it does go away? Dave

2 throwout bearings since August :nope: (do you hold the clutch down when stopped at a light?)

Does the noise change when you depress the clutch?

sorry took so long. i went to walmart. the car was bought used. 23k miles, now 25k mi. i dont know what idler pulleys are. therefore i dont konow if i have them. what if i did? what would that incenuate? have u had this problem as well?

1st i have to ask... i hope your being sarcastic about the slowsvt. 2nd no, i do not sit at lights w/ my foot on the clutch. i only do it if i know it will be turning green shortly. why? am i supposed to keep my foot in on the clutch while at lights all the time? but that makes no sense. i had a 95 camaro that was a 5speed & an eclipse that was a 5speed & drove them the exact same way. i never had to replace ANY parts in the clutches from those cars. so how would that be relevant. u had my wondering, then i was like hey!!! anyhow just bcuz your girlfriend probably cant drive a cobra svt 6speed the right way, dont assume i cant either u dont even know me. CAPECHE!

Without actually hearing it this will be kinda hard to diagnose.....it could be your TOB again or an idler pulley, tensioner pulley.

If you met me you would know why I have that name! :D ;) Next read Daves post those are all excellent questions. Third, I did go to the meet today and it was great until I decided to do a burnout and lost the clutch in my car! :( Well I guess it was time to step up to something better than a spec stage IV?? Whatever that may be????

I think you are misinterpreting my question. The reason I ask is because you stated you went through 2 throwout bearings already which is kind of rare. Some people will sit at a light with the car in gear and their foot on the clutch which will beat-up on the throwout bearing.

A simple "no" would have sufficed.

The question that really mattered was regarding the noise that was being made. Does it change when you depress the clutch pedal?

There is a recall on the throwout bearing guide tube which is prone to damage during servicing.

You're so very correct Dave. Without hearing the noise it is hard to know what is wrong. SlowSVT I didn't know there was a TSB on the throwout tube, great info. You would think the dealer would have checked and fixed it but knowing some dealers I guess that they could have missed that!

Tiger Jill the idler, tensioner pulley's are the pulleys the serpentine belt wraps around. Mine was making a noise similar to what you described and it turned that all the pulley's needed to be replaced as the bearings in the pulley's had gone bad. If the dealer replaced the throwout bearing twice and you still have the noise, did the noise go away after they replaced the bearing and then the noise comes back later?

Engine squeeks? hmmm, it could be a number of things. Sometimes the Service people fix the wrong thing especailly if there is a FTSB (Ford Technical Service Bulletin). If the noise went away when they changed the TOB the first time, I would suspect that since it returned and if it sounds similar it could be the same thing. I doubt it is caused by driving habits. More or less there was an assembly issue when the service personnel replaced it. If you take it into the dealer, have them run a service history on the vehicle prior to your ownership. For all you know they may have replaced the TOB several times before you bought it. They should have replaced the entire transmission, clutch and pressure plate. In some cases they have done just that.

As for the pullies, look under the hood and check the pullies next to the supercharger, if they are not black painted steel I would bet they are aftermarket pullies. The SC will develop a mild whisper over time when idle or at low boost which is normal. It it makes a really nasty noise other than the whine, the oil level in the SC may be low. There is a change interval for the Super charger oil since it does not use engine oil for lubrication. It sounds like you are probably close to the milage for changing it anyway. How that is done, I am not sure since I have not put that many miles on mine to find out.

Most chirps or squeeks can be identified if it makes the noise when not in motion. Pop the hood, start it up and listen. At least you may get an idea where it is comming from. If you only hear it in the cabin it may be from what you suspect (throw out bearing or transmission). Best of luck finding out where the noise is comming from.

I would have to agree with the T/O bearing. When mine went out, it strated out sounding like a pulley squeak. The dealer even thought it was a pulley and did not want to pull the tranny (this before the TSB). It actually got so bad before the dealer would do any work, the transmission, clutch and flywheel had to be replaced. So without actually hearing it I would say it is your T/O bearing. As mention above Ford does have a TSB out for this on the 03's. It's not a recall and the dealer will not replace it unless you present it as a problem. Then they become all informative about the TSB. The website above is a great source for finding out what TSB are out there for our cars. In my experenice the dealer are not very forthcoming for this info. Hope this helps, and congrats on your purchase of the Cobra.

I am beginning to hear that in mine as well. When I begin to roll into 1st from a dead stop I hear something that sounds like a pully squeak, but I can feel it in the stick. Interesting...

thanks for all the help. i think what im going to do is print out this thread and take it in to the service dept. so that he has an idea what to do, & or look for. to anser one of the q`s. as the noise is obvious while the car is ideling if i press down the clutch the sound instantly goes away. while it is decompressing the squeak slowly starts to resume again. i`m reading all these helpful hints & almost shaking my head w/ confusion, but since it is my car & im very interested to get the problem rectified i am putting forth all my concentration. dont get me wrong i do know a few things about fast cars & some parts, but mostly from listening to my dad & friends talk guy talk. its nice to have such honest help & advise. i am just dying to meet up w/ u ****ers!!!!! so where is the closest meet to st louis & when is it? im there!

Yup, sounds like you got a throwout bearing problem. Not sure if your car is under warranty but tell the dealer there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) # 04-13-4 on this problem and you want them to install Ford p/n: 3R3Z-7005-AA for the upgraded TOB guide tube. The dealer may not have been aware of this but make sure it shows up on your repair invoice. Since it is a design defect they should replace it for free. Go to that link I posted and read up on how these guy handled this situation before going to the dealer.

Good luck

Before you can post pic you need to be a member of SCMC and not just forum user.
If you want to meet the group then try and come to the High Performance Driving School March 12-13 at CMP here in SC. I know that it is a drive from St.L but we get people from Canada for this event. If you have never done an on track event like this you do not know what you are missing. Some of us think that it is the most fun you can have in a car.:rotf:

On the noise that you have got you might try a different dealer if the one you are using can not fix the problem.

Hey Tiger Jill,

Welcome to the club. Hope you enjoy it. Try to attend as many events
as possible. There are many a great persons in the SCMC.

p.s. My mother used to live in Saint Charles MO. Very nice area. I think
she spent too much time & money in the old shopping area. If I remember
correctly they had cobble stone streets and gas lamps???
