Hello all. I had a question hoping to get some help with. I just recently got my 03 Cobra and I am going to use my bonus $4500 to make mods to it. What mods would you suggest. I know little about what would be good and need some help.

Well, what are you intentions with the car? Car Shows, cruiser, handling auto-x, open track, street power, drag racing? or simlified, do you want look, more handling, or more power?
That would determine where to spend the $$$ .
You are in the "upgrade the blower" range also. As in Whipple or KB, but you need to prolly get some more $$ to reinforce the rest of the car for the blower (fuel, tune, chassis stiffening)
oh, and if that was a Coupe, I would suggest selling it to me... :jk: Mineral Grey

What is your power goal??
450rwhp? or more? (yes I know that is a loaded question as everyone always want more power)

well, definitely go for a Whipple or Kenne Bell (prolly need to save a bit more). But... be aware of the fact that you should all the supporting parts for the blower upgrade. The most important being a tune, but also, a new MAF if your pegging yours, fuel system upgrades, cooling upgrades, chassis stiffening.. etc etc. Basically, make sure you make the upgrade safe from grenading the engine, because, even if its a built motor with forged internals, running bad a/f, wrong spark timing, or too much heat, can hurt it.
Would like to be in the 550 to 600 RWHP range.
- Whipple or KB ($3,100)
- 60 lb inj. & adapters ($620)
- SCT MAF or MAF extender ($250 or $100)
- Flash Tuner w/ custom tune for your combo ($400)
- K & N FIPK ($175)
- Exhaust (prices vary widely)
That's a bit over your budget (becuase of the exhaust), but not by too much.
Of course this will lead you down the path to further mods that will be required. A clutch is the first thing that comes to mind.
My $0.02.

Paratrooper82nd,
Just some info for you, KB is offering a 10% discount for OIF/OEF vets and a 5% discount for all military members. Not sure if whipple is matching it or not but Amazon racing is offering a group purchase on the whipple. To get the KB discount contact them to get the details. As eveyone else has said get a GOOD tune and all the supporting mods.

Red03 is right Amazon Racing is doing a group purchase for the Whipple right now and is good towards the end of Feb.! For the satin black it's going to run you around $3015 shipped.

Give them a call, you will be talking with Linn, that's Rick's wife (the owners). She'll fill you in on all the details and everything else you'll need! I'd invest in a larger HE and if you haven't already get a CAI, JLT is a great choice! http://www.jlttruecoldair.com/Products.htm
Injectors, Fuel pumps, MAFXtender, etc.......
I see you live in Belmont! Trevor is in Belmont near the South Point High School, and I live in Stanley! If you ever need any help installing things or if you just want to cruise let us know! One of our friends John has a Saleen Extreme S/C.
Good Luck with all your mods!

You plan on going to the Dragday and Cookout? Cookout is at the Hilton's place on the 5th and Dragday is in Jackson, SC on the 26th of Feb. Trevor and myself will be going there, so if you want to cruise down with us that would be cool.
Weather permitting, we will be out on Franklin this weekend, we usually hang out at the BurgerKing on the west end! Trevor works up in Belmont in the shopping plaza behind the Waffle House there, he drives the White 04' Cobra. He told me he had sent you an email for us to get together sometime, not sure if you got it or not? He's seen you around town a few times, but has never had the chance to talk with you!

Cool, that sounds good. Does he work at the Eckerds there at the shopping center? I will hopefully have my car back before this weekend. They are replacing the heads on it. Had the dreaded tick noise. I am going to the cookout and would like to cruise up there with you guys.

When I had my kenne bell put on there was a guy putting a kenne bell on his 03 gt at the same time he didn't have the dough for an exhaust upgrade and it sounded pretty funny trying to put all that exhaust thru the stock exhaust/cats. I dont know what his dyno #'s were but I think that they would not be that hot. Oh he had a stock intake too so he was sucking a tornado thru a straw as well :doubt:

Yes, Trevor works at the Eckerds.
I hope you get your car back soon! We will be going to the cookout also, so we will get in touch with you before then. Here's my email address if you want to get up this weekend (jason.r.herd@rrd.com)

I would like to go to this and get my car dyno'd again after I had my exhaust work done, but that is the same day as the Hilton's cookout!
- Maybe next time-:)

Ah... quit yer whinin' and come on and do it ya hoser ;);)
I'm actually going to the dyno day in Anderson with the Cobra... I'm hoping to go early enough in the morning to be done with enough time to head back home and make it to Robbie and Patti's place for the cookout.
Any guesses as to what the Cobra will put down Jason :D
Oh and Richard... I'll take you for a ride in the "Whipplecharged Cobra" if you'd like to have one in it... it'll definitely make you wanna buy that "black supercharger option" after you get back

I'm guessing since you dyno'd 613 hp at the wheels without a tune! You will be around 630rwhp +
About the cookout / dyno - How far away is the dyno place from the cookout? Richard is going to follow Trevor and me to the cookout, so I doubt I'll be at the dyno!
I'll keep you posted to what I dyno (stock = 362rwhp) I'll see you at the cookout and I'll line up next to you at dragday also (until the light goes green:rotf: )
I won't be near you until I get my Black supercharger option put on, by the mid of next year! I may have some cams put in before the end of this year though!!:D

Dang... I thought I was the only night owl around here :)
The dyno in SC is 2 1/2 hours from me... I'm gonna say two hours from you tops since you've got the 30 or so minute head start. Had it just been a regular dyno day I would have passed on it for the cookout... but since I'm in dire need of a tune right now and Rick is tuning I can't pass that up. Actually on the "street" tune it might put down less than what it did when I saw you last. Now the 110 octane tune for 21-22 psi... :dunno::D
Dude you should have been with me earlier tonight. I put the 3.20" Reichard non-slip on the Cobra with the 4lb lower still on... it saw 20 psi out on 321. This friggin' thing is getting to be a really fast mofo right now
Talk to ya soon.

I'm actually at work, but night-owl is right!!
You've got to hear my exhaust, this thing sounds sweet! Plus if you look at my sig you can see some of the things I'll have by dragday installed. Look at my snakepit for what's already on it and awaiting install!:D
So Rick from Amazon Racing is doing the tune? If that's the case I might run by there! Is it on the way to the cookout or the opposite way? I'm not really sure how long it's going to take to get to the cookout.

Sorry mang... I was over on "another board" lookin' around ;)
Robbie's house is actually opposite directions of where the dyno is. Anderson is down 85 past Spartanburg. Robbie's house is off I-40 aways... going towards Statesville. If you go then we can make it I'm sure... we'll just get there late ;)
Rick from Amazon will be there doing the tuning. And yes I noticed mods that you have lined up... along with no Whipple :( I had a nice 3.00" pulley I'd sell you for the thing too :D
Let me know if you need any help installing any of the new parts you have ordered. I've pretty much done all the mods you're getting ready to do... and they're pretty commonplace with me now :)

Well, I've got some bushings for the front coming in on Monday, and I've still got my rear Control Arm bushings to put in! Want to help?
How much boost will that 3.00" pulley put out on the Whipple? I'm going to get one, just waiting on the money to be there! :D

What time are you thinking about leaving for this? I'm going to see if I can make it! Post it here and I'll respond after I figure out what's going on. Do you have any idea how many cars are getting dyno'd/tuned?
Thanks GNSX for the info!
Shannon, if you still have that 3.00" pulley for the Whipple when I get mine, I'll take it off your hands ($)!
