I have no idea what you are referring to, unless you are referring to the track being open friday evening and they are planning on the SCMC speed crew swooping in for hot laps? Post what you know here or email me, and I will post on other boards to get the word out.

I am already excited about this event, this is going to be a blast!!!

Brian
Hi everybody; This is Mommy with the hotel information. Most of the hotels I contacted blew us off and didn't care if we came. I talked to the manager of the new Holiday Inn Express and he was so very nice and wants to have us there. I hope that you will consider it because of that. I am posting the link to their site so you can get directions to the hotel. http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/sohmi
The rate for Friday and Saturday nights will be $80.75 plus tax per night. When you call, to get the rate, tell then you are with the SCMC. If you have any problem at all, which I really don't think you will, ask for the manager, Chirag Patel and he will take care of it. He is very nice. The cut off date for the rate is August 16. He said that they do have to stick to that as that is still a tourist time for them. They have a complimentary breakfast, and he agreed to have it start at 6:00 on Saturday morning to accomodate us. It will be at 6:30 on Sunday morning. They do have extra long parking sites for trucks and trailers, but not for everybody. So if people can get their trailers to the track, it will be helpful for the people who come in late.
This is a new hotel, and it should be very nice. If you have any problems or questions, please contact Chirag and he will help you out.
The address is 1741 Phoenix Rd. South Haven. When you take the Phoenix Rd exit, it is just a little ways west.
I hope this answers any questions you have. See you at Gingerman.
Mommy :) :)

I did ask about that, but we are having a barbecue Saturday night at the track, I think it is. I see that I forgot to include the phone number of the hotel. It is (269) 637-8800. They don't have an 800 number directly to the hotel. Sorry about that! :D

Mike,

You will need a rollbar for this event as we no longer accept convertibles without rollbars at our open track events. We will have a "parade lap" during lunch for people who are attending but not running.

Jason,

Ronnie and I are going up together so it looks like there will be a small caravan of us going up. I'll be leaving on Thursday with an overnighter in Ohio and then to the track on friday morning. Should be a fun time!

Dave,

I'll be bringing the club's laptop and it can play DVD's, etc... It can also burn photo CD's while we wait so we can have a slide show on Saturday night.

Jason, run the car. That's why Ronnie is bringing the trailer, just in case one of us has a problem with our cars. It looks like Ronnie and I will be leaving on Thursday and doing the over night thing in Columbus, Ohio. We may try to hit the karting thing if we get there early enough. Nothing like a little indoor karting before we hit the real track.

There is going to be a ton of activity going on at this event. We'll have the Steam Automobile club there, the SATCAR group, a car show, and a BBQ/cookout on Saturday. Bring friends to participate and let's fill this event like we never have before.

Thanks,

Tony

Hazman

So what route is the Carolina caravan taking to Gingerman??

I ran Mapquest and it looks like either:

Mapquest recommended 77 through WVa via Cleveland to South Haven (837 miles, 13 hours 12 mins.)
TN crew recommended 40 to Knoxville, 75 to Cincinnati, 74 to Indy then Hwy 31 to South Haven (800 miles, 13 hours 33 mins.)
Buckeye recommended 77 through WVa via Columbus to South Haven (791 miles, 13 hours 18 min.)

Where in OH are you planning to stay and do the meet & greet, karting and dinner??

If you do it in Cincinnati then I might get some of the TN crew to come join in. The best route for the TN crew is 75 through Cincinnati to Indy then Hwy 31 to South Haven (554 miles, 9 hours 24 mins.). Looks like 8 hours to Cincinnati from Rock Hill.

If we go over to Columbus it is less likely we would join up. It adds 144 miles and 2 hours to the trip for the TN crew. Looks like 7.5 hours from Rock Hill to Columbus.

So what is the plan?? :what:

cobrabitn
07-02-2005, 06:29 PM
I will be doing the "buckeye" recommended route! :bounce: That would be 9 hours for Ronnie Stokes from Columbia, SC. What we'll do is probably meet Dave at the VA/NC line like we did last time and go on up through WV to Columbus. Do an overnighter in Columbus and then go to South Haven Friday morning!

We have camped in the grassy "paddock" area and in the designated campground. Both were fine, but we prefer the convenience of being closer to the track. If heat becomes a factor the campground area has shade though.

Otherwise, quiet at night, very good shower facilities. No open fires except for the designated bond fire near the lake.

Come on, wake up at the track!

What is the SCMC optimum number of participants for Gingerman Raceway?

Once again, I have a few non-mustang/cobra owners who are interested.

I am debating inviting them back this year due to their behavior at the track last year.

who behaved badly? I only noted one guy who went out on track WITHOUT a helmet on  because he had a sun faded 1970's vintage helmet that was not acceptable :nono:  :nope:

Just a few things that I thought Guest shouldn't do.

One novice decided to have breakfast instead of attending the morning
drivers meeting. Later he failed to acknowledge the black flag and then
spun again at turn 2. Another experienced driver was giving rides to
friends even though he was told not to. Eventually the track personel
pulled him off the track. Finally a non-registered participant found his
way into the drivers seat for a session or two. When the track personel
caught him, he got lippy with them.

These are all decent people but being business owners or the sons of
business owners they have the mentallity that rules are for other people.
In the past they have lost brakes, dropped fluid and blown motors on track
due to failure to perform the required pre-event maintenance.

I am probably over reacting but as guests of mine I was not happy with
the way they behaved.

I had already decided not to invite them back this year. (Let them tear up
the Viper Club events without me) However, if we are in need of more drivers
I can extend the invite.

I figured that I would let the club decide if they are welcome.

p.s. I am not a stick in the mud, but I do believe that the rules at the track
need to be followed.

now that you mentioned it, I do remember hearing about someone driving that wasnt registered....definately not a good thing....same applies to not attending the drivers meeting....we should probably take a quick head count at the meeting and check off names....I'll let brian and tom chime in....

I have been to other events where they have a roll call at the driver's meeting. You don't go to the meeting, you don't drive until the next meeting. This could be something to consider, at least for novices.

I had a great bunch of people helping last year, but for some reason all the issues mentioned above are news to me other than the non-helmet wearing driver which was black flagged immediately, as I understood?
If on-track issues like this need attention, come to me or Scott Whitehead who is the lead instructor. Any help we can get, both on and off track from you all, are totally appreciated.

Brian,

I would like to officially offer my assistance at Gingerman in September.
I plan on camping out and should be there Friday Afternoon.

I'll be at Gingerman this weekend. Does anyone need me to get anything from the track?

I can't instruct but I can help register, set cones, paint numbers, whatever
it takes. Let me know!

You are correct, the last two years events were fantastic.

p.s. Sorry about bringing up some of the little issues from last year. I'm glad

Jeff,
Last year was my first year attempting to fill Dean Smeltzers shoes as the organizer. Dean did a wonderful job and I feel bad that I was not able to take over as smoothly as it could have been, but we will do better this year. I know a little more what to expect and we will have more great help from members like you.

You help will be greatly appreciated. Its' too early to assign specific jobs, but lets all meet up at the track friday afternoon and we will get volunteers assigned.

Mrs. bolt-on here tonight, getting hyped for Gingerman. We were there last weekend to see Dean Smeltzer win the AI race (great post of his checker flag). For our event in Sept. I will be bringing my '65 tropical turquoise fastback for the car show. Hope to get it out on the track during touring laps (pretty face, nasty snarl)...but not a track car. Larry has his Cobra for that. Have promised Tony my time on Saturday for the car show, but will have my helmet and will try to get out on the track as much as I can, yes another bum looking for a ride :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Well my "mind" aka Jayne just let me know that it has decided we will be staying in a hotel. My "mind" does not like the idea of sleeping in a tent every night after long days on the track which I understand. I wonder if I can weld a receiver hitch on the rear of my flatbed trailer and bring a popup.
Now talk about the east TN Beverly hillbillies coming to town can you just picture me with my F-250 pulling a 42' long flat with the Z06 and Cobra on it and a popup trailer behind rolling into Gingerman!?!? :rotf: I will have to stop at the designated exits for double and triple semis to get fuel and food. Oh this is getting better and better.

Anyone willing to offer me a ride?!

I too have a '97 Cobra convertible that I do not have a rollbar in. I am wrestling w/ that decision as it would mean I lose the CDC light bar I had installed. Not sure what to do. Maybe a pure custom rollbar that fits with the lightbar and allows backseat access...sounds expensive huh? Having done 5 track events in the past I am going thru w/drawal this year as every org. has disallowed 'verts due to insurance. Maybe I should just buy a coupe.

I would love to come up to Gingerman to at least meet everyone and take part in the car show BUT could not handle not getting on the track at least once in some way. HELP ME HELP YOU!

Mommy :) :)

This may have already been posted, but the hotel is full. I found one room left at a couple of hotels however, most of them were well over $100. There are a few rooms left at the Hampton, ($99). We will be staying there unless Holiday Inn comes up with some cancellations.

Must be a tourist weekend?

thank you Mommy for your hard work. See you there!

Glad your coming back to the track in September. I didn't get a chance
to say goodbye in July. I had brake pad failure that I didn't notice until
heading out to the grid. See you at the track

NO PASSING IN THE TURNS OR WITHOUT A POINT BY!

Bonny, I will be there with the 94 Cobra Coupe not the Mystichrome. I won't be instructing as I'm doing the show on Saturday and running some on Sunday. I just want the event to run smoothly and be able to help Brian out at the event.

The reason Greg won't be there is because his car is still limping from the Hot Rod Power tour...he'll be towing it to Autofair. MI is too far for the Dingo to pull it. :rotf:

The Mystery Member is not from the Carolinas................ :)

Bonny,

There are 4 preregistered for the show so far. I'm sure we'll get more as a lot of our MI members will be there but haven't registered yet!

I will be heading out there with my best friend Mikey,
I am not sure if we will be driving his 04 Cobra-Faleen :D

Or my Convertible (or both) guess we'll have to see

Anyone know some of the hotel names in town?
I would like to try and get a room, as I don't have a tent :(
but it'll be nice to see everyone again ;)

The Hampton Inn (South Haven, MI) still had rooms as of a few days ago.
Its a couple miles from the track. Two turns (1 right turn out of the hotel
parking lot and 1 left turn into the track.) ;)

If you plan on buying an event shirt then you will need to either send your money in now or go to the store and pay on line. If you do not prepay...there will not be any extras, period. Snooze, you lose!

The event shirts will have a 2001 and a 2000 Cobra R on them. :) We won't say whose cars they are.... :D

Roush was at the SVTOA Gingerman Event in July. They had 2 nice looking Roush F-150s and 2 very sharp 2005 Roush Mustangs.

What is our rule for verts? Rollbar only? Beginner group without rollbar? Lunchtime touring without rollbar?

I'm sure the answer is here somewhere, but can't seem to find it. I may have a car in time, but I don't think I can get and install the rollbar in time. Then again, someone from the dark side made me a pretty nice offer on one o' dem Chebeez.

What gear are you pulling out of turns 2, 3, 6 and 9?

I'm just practiced enough to start heel-toe downshifting at the track.
(Yes, I know that it's long over due!)

My '01 Cobra w/4.10 gears is a bit sluggish in third gear out of turns 2, 3, 6 &
9 in past years at Gingerman.

However my car gets crazy loose in 2nd gear high speed turns on the street.

Exiting the corners in 3rd I only have to worry about pushing.

Also, my Steeda Tri-X shifts 3rd to 4th to 3rd real nice. It does
not like going from 2nd to 3rd much at all (slow shifts)

Can't wait till next week. I haven't had a day off work in three weeks.

Get someone experienced to ride with you. I am betting if you played with different lines and driving techniques you will be able to learn to drive around the push.

I had a 01 Cobra with 4.10 gears, I would say you should be in third gear for almost the whole track, the exception will be a shift to 4th on one or two straight aways.

In my 95R, I put the car in 3rd gear when I start the session, and my next shift is when I come off the track.

There used to be an "off hours" entrance off to the west of the track. From the main entrance on Phoenix road go west (back towards South Haven) to the first intersection. Go north (right turn) and a short distance down on the right is an entrance that takes you in past several gray garages and to the main part of the track. Enjoy. First time in 3 years I can't make it.

Thanks to all of the members that offered "charity rides" and to all of the event instructors. Thanks to Kevin Rogers for the driving tips as you helped me to keep Dave, Burke, and Rick off my tail Sunday afternoon.

We had 17 cars at the car show, two beautiful days for open tracking, raised $500.00 for the Red Cross, raised $375.00 for the SCMC Pete Fritzsching Fund, and had a financially successful event! Awesome event, awesome weather, and great company! Results with photos to come out as soon as possible.
