That's cool. I can change my tires while you guys are doing that.:)

I drive as fast as I can on the oval stuff so I can hurry up and get to the fast transitions in the infield and the turn at the center.:bounce:

yeah...like letting out a bunch of air and pouring oil on Tony's tires when he's not looking:D I just hope to be a few ticks closer on 411. But on CMP/TGP, the investment should yield higher dividends...

This keyboard racing is killing me! Can't wait to get on the track.

Drop hammer and one or two more times around (timed laps).

Brett,

At Lanier, we take a 3/4 lap to get up to speed, 2 full hot laps and then 1/2+ lap to slow down and get off the track.

At 411, if timers are setup at Drag strip side of oval, you could enter at normal gate giving 3/4 lap to get up to speed. 2 full hot laps and after crossing the start finish, you've got 3/4 of a lap to slow down and exit through normal exit gate. Any more laps and tire temps and oil cavitating/gravitating? become an issue. It's amazing how fast you can go if you hit the turns right. Jason (Ragtop03) had a sub 17 second run which is an AVERAGE speed of approx 80mph on the same size track (Lanier has LESS bank but better surface). It's intense! If you suffer from vertigo, it's not recommended :D

Mark

Yeller' 12-14-2005 01:26 PM

Cool, how many runs do you get in a day?

fasst94impala 12-14-2005 02:06 PM

As with most events, track time is directly related to the number of entries. Held true for us. With only 15 cars, it was pretty much, keep going out until you get dizzy. With 2 drivers, Jason's Vette saw a lot of action

At 411, a 2 hot lap format mentioned above will take slightly less time as an Auto-X run, plus you can get more cars through on the oval runs because there are no stinkin' cones to pickup or course workers to worry about. We also found eliminating a long lunch break (since we rent the track by the hour), was condusive to a bunch more track time.

Rick...morning AutoX - afternoon Oval action? Combined scores competition?

Oh, I think I could fly if I were in the Mustang and on good tires. The thoughts of doing it in a 100hp (maybe) Honda doesn't sound like much fun. I'm not trying to talk anyone out of doing anything, I just said I don't have anything for it. Sorry.

Soooo.....why........not.......drive........the Mustang?! Lemme guess, might accidentally have fun, right?

BTTBSS 12-14-2005 05:01 PM

Stay low and spin into the grass. Lanier has walls top and bottom so it can exact a greater price if you loose it.

BTW Rick,

You do realize that April 9, is Palm Sunday ?

Looks more like "can't sell it". :(

sjrife 12-14-2005 05:31 PM

I haven't seriously tried to sell it yet, as I wasn't 100% convinced that is what I wanted/needed to do until about a week ago. I looked at a 2000 F150 this past weekend and ALMOST made the numbers work, so that is encouraging.

So you can TOW your good MPG race car around, instead of daily driving it?! :rotf:

You can't win for losing!

Course change up may be a more hot topic than thought. We may hafta make it "softer" for the lesser built Import cars. :baby::p;):rotf:

Hazman 01-07-2006 09:15 AM

OK it is time to get those registration forms filled out and in the mail. Sign up for all three events and save some $$$. Get those Cobras out and have some fun!! :bounce:

sambo300 01-07-2006 11:12 AM

Hey Rick...glad to hear about 411. You can eventually count me in. So it was just hearsay about the "filling in of the infield" for m/x purposes? And Tony....instead of course change, can't we just handicap you?....(it's a joke!)...don't want to step on toes.........lol.

antivnm 01-07-2006 11:55 PM

i like the idea of spliting up the street tires and race tires. and i am fine with course change. i want tony on the same tires he was using last time we went to the dragon :p

Thats cool.......if we have time, and I have a lil' help, i don't mind swappping tires back over to see how I do. Kinda like running on motor, and on nitrous. :) Now, if they give away trophy's for RACE TIRE and STREET TIRE cars, I don't wanna hear any whinnin' if I leave with two trophys. :baby: :D

CathDoc 02-12-2006 09:54 PM

Hazman 02-16-2006 05:44 PM

Registration List updated.

Hazman 02-17-2006 10:21 AM

OK for all the folks asking about verts and rollbars.....for 411 AX events you will not be required to have a rollbar if you are running on regular street tires. And before anyone asks DON"T, you all know what is a street tire vs a sticky tire so just DON'T. :D

Jason 02-17-2006 09:04 PM

Well damn. :(

Wht03Mach1 02-18-2006 08:12 PM

Hey, all

Being this my first event, I'm looking for any and all help! I just want to have fun and be safe! I look forward to meeting everyone there!!

coreseller 02-20-2006 11:24 PM

Howdy,

I ran down last September with Mr. Michael (MojoSVT) and we unfortunately never got to the track, Mike and his Dad are great guys and walked away relatively unscathed, so God truly is on their side. How and whom do I send a check to to get into this event? Thanks again, hoping to run the DragonsTail again......Mark.

cobrabitn 02-20-2006 11:43 PM

Mark,

Go to the first page for the registration form and download it from there!

Y'all have fun and be safe! :)

Stavesacre21 02-21-2006 01:37 AM

Tony....got a quick one for you. Finances allowing, I'm plannin on buying a helmet in the near future. However...I wasn't sure if they have loaners at these events. Do you know if it's possiable to rent helmets at these events? I'll lay it all out on the table now and be honest....I've NEVER been to any event related to cars. Rather is be dragstrip, car show, or AX....so i have no idea what the deal is. Think you could shine a light on this?

Or really...anyone else for that matter too....

Thanx all :D

LeadSSled 02-21-2006 07:36 AM

There are always loner helmets at the event - no charge. Don't let not owning a helmet be the only thing that keeps you away. The SCMC folks wil have you (and your head) covered if you show up without one.

cobrabitn 02-21-2006 07:42 AM

What LeadSled said! Just hook with Rick at the AX and he'll fix you right up. The 411 is a good way to learn more about your car!

Watch out for those Taxi cabs... :rotf:

Stavesacre21 02-21-2006 08:03 AM

I keep reading about these taxi cabs... what on EARTH is the reference here?! I'm so confused :spoke:

Hazman 02-21-2006 08:21 AM

Oh you have not meet the AARP Taxi Cab Squad yet have you!!

You are in for a real treat. We have several Impala SS and other Chevrolet B-body cars that run at 411 with us. Because of their four doored width and weight challenged cars they are nicknamed the Taxi Squad. Don't let looks fool you they are quicker than you might think!! I would not advise making any bets with these guys at the AX or next door at the dragstrip!!:D

Stavesacre21 02-21-2006 08:28 AM

lol...ok gotcha. Good thing you said that...i'm sure i'd have been pretty easy prey for a bet against a four door  yea, i'm that smart.

Thanx for the heads up guys :D

Just for reference, here is a link to a video from last year showing Hazman in his 97 Cobra Vert, Jason in his 03 C5 Vert, and 2 taxi cabs running 411. The video is shot so that you can compare the runs between the 4 cars. The LeadSSled on race tires is in the bottom right. The Impala on the bottom left (budjrfan) is on street tires.

If you would still like to make a wager, just let me know. ;)

Hope to see you at the show. This is just about as much fun that you can have with your car for $35. The SCMC folks are terrific hosts and these 411 autocrosses are my favorite racing events of the year.

fasst94impala 02-21-2006 09:59 AM

Mailed registration for 4/9 + 8/27 today :D :bounce:

Looking forward to it!

Stavesacre21 02-21-2006 10:08 AM

omg that looks like so much fun! and yea...that's a pretty freakin fast cab! Where are they when you need them in NYC?!

Excited to meet you all on 4/9!!

Well, since the B-body Caprice went out of production in 1996, all of the cabs in NYC are now Ford Clown Vics. They are slow and have some reliabilty problems. :D

It is not just the deceptive look of those cabs that will fool you it is also the mild mannered nice quiet spoken grey haired gentlemen that drive them. :spoke: :firedevil
