Keeping them coming Larry...you're giving me some good ideas .... :rotf:

Larry,
You don't know how bad I want to go but I have several hurdles to jump. One being that my significant other wouldn't understand. Two, I don't have enough time left from work to take off for the travel time by truck/trailer. Three, I don't have a truck/trailer combination to even haul my 94 Coupe with me. The worst would be that I fly down there on Friday night and return on Sunday night. I'd have to have a rental car because outside of two changes of clothes, I'd be bringing a helmet and some gloves. I've already checked on the pricing and the club can afford to put me up for the weekend. |

Make it three changes of clothes.... :rotf: :rotf:  |
You make it sound like someoneI might ride with would make me dirty my pants in order to need a third change.... :rotf:

That car with him driving is gaining quite the rep down here!!! Maybe 4 changes... ;) |

A ride with Wayne Manor or John George would make you soil your pants  |
I'd bring a dark brown pair of jeans so I can hide the spots... :rotf:

No need to worry about a rent car - you're comin to Texas, so get ready for some Texas hospitality. We'll pick you up at the airport in the cowboy limo (fly into Hobby Airport).
|
Tony just come on over to East Tennessee and hitch a ride. We leave Friday Morning and will have you back sometime Monday. :D
|
Rachel or I will pick you up in the GT if it will get you down here to Texas :thumbsup:The only problem is you would have to pack real light! :rotf:

1 bag, 1 helmet and gloves. The Hertz renter is for me to run on track. I saw a Shelby Hertz in Rock Hill Saturday morning. I pretended not to see it as the guy was checking out my ride but it looked really sweet. Then I looked at my hood and saw the colors change and was glad I was in what I was in!

I think it would have done much better at MSRH. With bigger brakes, a manual tranny, and better tires, a V6 Coupe would be a pretty decent track car. |
I let it slip about a SVT DE to the Mini and the pimped bimmer crowd. There is a at least one M3 that seems to like tangling with one Mystichrome SVT Cobra Mustang, right Jimmy? :D

Thanks  |

I could not run away from him anymore!!! BOTH his driving and his car have seen some big improvements!!! I got a little something up my sleeve this time though... It may or may not be enough... ;) That's all I'm saying :D |

Hello Everyone... New here... Just signed up for the event... can't wait. My car is basically stock... is there anything I should be concerned about (cooling mainly). Also, I will need to buy some tires for this... can someone recommend a good tire for just getting started?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Just make sure your fluids are all good and fresh, especially the brake fluid. If you have not bled the brakes ever or for a while, I would bleed them just before the event. Also make sure your pads are at least half of their original thickness, especially on the front!! Tires need to be in good condition with no less than 4/32's or so if they are street compound. If you have never done anything like this before, you are in for a real treat!! :bounce: |

I would not worry about cooling. It will be November and probably not that hot at all. Unless you are coming from a racing or auto cross background you will probably not be leaning on the car hard enough to get it into limp mode. After (not if ;) ) you decide you like doing this open track stuff we can give you economical pointers to help get your car adapted (they are a hell of a car bone stock!!) to open track. How many miles do you have now? If you need tires there is a very real possibility that your front pads are a little too close to use at an event. Don't throw them out!!! Just put a new set on if they are 1/2 gone, and you can put them back on to finish them off on the street. Tires and brake pads are something that we are always watching for deals on. I currently am running Sumitomo HTR ZII tires, they are now my street/rain tires but before I had track rubber I used them and really liked how they performed. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Model=HTR+Z+II I have since found a better tire(also more money :( )... that I will be running when it's time to replace the Sumis. Falken AZENIS RT-615 :headbang: http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_rt615_t.htm There is a check list that the car must go through... down load a copy and then you can line up someone to do your check out. You may want to address the pads and tire issues first if you know they are border line. This is without question the most fun you can have in a car........... with your pants still on!!! |

I have a couple questions of my own for the track junkies out there... I have been looking at getting a new set of track wheels and tires for my Black '03 Cobra. (I have an "ok" set now, but the SVT can handle bigger and better)......... I've been thinking about FR500 wheels wrapped in Nitto NT01's but there are tons of options (wheel height, width, color, tire size, etc.). My flexible plans - Anthracite (sp?) FR500 18x9 non-deep dish with 275/35 Nitto NT01's. What do you guys think about the Anthracite vs. Silver vs. Black FR500's on a Black Cobra? I figure the 275/35 tires will clear ok, could I go any wider???Also, any particular pads you recommend to use with the stock brakes? I am planning on running in TDE Oct. 21/22, any tips for my first time to TWS? If I haven't asked enough questions, let me know... I'm sure I can think of some more. |

If you are going to run your track pads all the time, then some compromises have to be made. The higher temp race/like pads dust more squeal more and wear rotors more... than the more street friendly lower performing(lower temp range) pads. Something that I recommend to every one(except 1st timers) ..... is Brake cooling through ducting.......... It is essential!!!! ........... and cheap and easy. Plus it will allow the successful use of a more street oriented pad for the "less hardcore" user. Here is an excellent source.. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...d.php?t=295546 |
I agree with Jimmy on the brake cooling ducts.
Also, for the price difference vs. performance difference, I would also look into 17's. The tires you picked should perform failry well. As far as TWS.... do NOT early apex turn 7 :) |

Oh how this car has morphed?!!! Link to tease you with! www.aggie97.com/tws/ What all mustangs should aspire to do! Andy, I am assuming that the instructors need to sign up as before? <--- will be waiting patiently for his student to get hooked! |

Let me check on this... I can't remember if you guys had to register first on the web site or just hand in your registration at our check in at the track. I will find out and let you (and all the other instructors) know asap! See you all at the track!! |
Is it that time yet.....I cant wait any longer...I just need to get the car all ready and some parts changed out....

Looking forward to seeing the Texas crew again. Your AI/CMC contingent did you proud at the NASA Nationals last week. Had the Texas flag flying high over their compound and did well on the track too!
Just finished loading the truck to head to Gingerman in the morning. :bounce: |

Well we had a great time at the 2006 Cobra Nationals at Gingerman!!:bounce: We even got to run on track a couple of sessions with Jack Roush Jr.!!
We are looking to make reservations and I was wondering about the Best Value Inn in Angelton. We stayed at the Best Western last year and it was nice but the Best Value is less expensive so anyone down there know how it compares to the Best Western??? |
Quote:
I'm not sure...Maybe send Jim a PM The Best Western will give you 10% discount if you tell them you are with MSR Houston. See ya soon  |

We looked at the Best Value Inn - no problem, nice place. Just a little farther down the street. |
Is passing in the corners going to be allowed for Carl and I, he just ignores the Blue Flags :p
