Less than 5 weeks left!! We need more drivers!!

SuperG 10-13-2006 08:40 AM

Received the MSR Packet - Some Clarifications

I was really happy to receive the e-mail from Jim Boden with the links to the MSR Packet. I learned a few things...such as I need to have steel braided brake lines! Whew! I have 4 weeks to get those instead of 4 days.

Also, regarding the directions to MSR, it should read South CR 48. People like me will turn left at North CR 48, eventhough that's only a few miles south of Highway 6!

I was also happy to see we can pre-register on Friday...Will we be allowed to keep our car there overnight?

And I was reminded to get a fire extinguisher...a mod I installed on my SHO after I actually needed it!

Finally, coolant flush, tranny flush, new oil, brake fluid flush, weld in new floor reinforcing plates, find magnetic numbers...Wow. Only 4 more weeks!

Firme 10-13-2006 09:42 AM

Gary,

I will update the directions on the form tonight, thanks.

Yes, you can leave your car there over night friday, at your own discretion.

4 weeks is an long time =D you knock all that stuff out in one weekend day.

Gary, just to clarify something... although stainless steel braided brake lines are certainly recommended and encouraged, they are NOT required. What IS more important is that you have sufficient pad thickness (especially on the fronts) AND fresh brake fluid!!

The fire extinguisher is also one of those things which are HIGHLY recommended but not required.

See you at the track!

Thanks Andy, for the clarification...After seeing what can happen to a car with NO brakes, I think I'll go ahead and get those braided lines! And fire extinguishers, for those of you who don't have one, are around $12...not bad! And you're right about brake pads!! Thicker is Mo Betta!

Need more people to sign up!!

Hazman 10-16-2006 01:55 PM

Braided or stainless steel lines for are REQUIRED for 1996-1998 Cobras. 96-98 Cobras without these will not pass tech inspection. The SCMC has this rule based on past experience with brake line failures in these model years. The stock lines are rubber almost all the way up to the caliper. As a rusult they can get too hot and fail. This has occured more than once at past events. That is why it was added to the club tech inspection for as a REQUIREMENT.

Rick,

Thanks so much for the clarification. I am sorry for causing some confusion on this. I was not aware of this before now.

See you at the track!!

And I just realized something...the magnetic numbers I have are white

I know I know, now I'm scrambling around trying to get the car ready lol. Let's see, new motor install - that'll take about 8 hours of solid wrenching.

I might have to bring the 2006 GT instead of the race car lol. Either way it'll be a blast!

Yeah the '06 GT wouldn't be soo bad. Factory Warranty!

Speaking of GT's, last year there was an '05 maroon with ghost flames...are those folks coming again?

Miguel 10-24-2006 02:19 PM

Regretfully my track budget has been blown by a stupid set of cheap PBR brake pads, and sadly I won't be able to make it.
Although virtually new, while doing a DE this last weekend at TWS, the PBR pads faded badly by turn 4 on my first warm up lap of the weekend, WTF!?:doubt: I had virtually no brakes for the rest of the day, and had to bleed the brakes to be sure that wasn't the problem. They smoked away the rest of the day not realy helping me slow down, and I kept an eye on the pads. What I didn't know is that the inner ones were getting much thinner than the outer ones. Early on in the last run on Saturday the inner PBRs must have gone away, but with the usual noise of tracking I could not hear it, my only clue being slightly better braking as the backing plates chewed up the rotors. When the PBRs were replaced by my old OEM ones, I saw just how much they had been used up, and how much of the backing plates had been milled off by the rotors. Surprisingly the OEMs did a much better job during Sunday even with chewed up Rotors, only fading towards the end of the runs. Goes without saying I'm appaled at how lousy these PBR performed (they are the middle offering, in their line), fading on turn 4 of the warm up lap!? They were touted as a high performance pad, and were cheap. I wasn't expecting the performance of my old Ferodo pads, but I was expecting performance that was OEM like or better. Even the much maligned OEM ones were head and shoulders better. Before I return to tracking I need a Stop Tech BBK, if for my own peace of mind, as approaching #8 at TWS w/out brakes is an eye opener. Moral, don't get cheap with safety equipment, specialy the brakes!!
Hopefully I will be able to track with y'all next year, as y'all run a top notch event.

Howdy all.

I'll be in the old slow paint-faded Taurus waving people to pass me.

I have an open faced helmet that is SA05. Will there be any problems with open faced helmets?

See you in a few weeks.

Thanks,
Mike

So, not too long ago we were all thinking Nov. 11-12 was a long way away. Now many of us are thinking it's too close!!

I plan on dropping the car off Friday, once I get a tune, install the fire extinguisher, flush the PS, tranny, and brakes, install the roll bar...

Anyone else struggling to get their car ready for next weekend?
