New Member-couple questions

Hi all. I just joined the SCMC this week. Looking forward to it. I have a couple questions on my 03 SVT Cobra. I have terrible wheel hop in 1,2, and some in 3. I just bought urethane Steeda bushings since I was told this would cure my problem. True? Second question is regarding the boot cover(convertible). I already lost one, and this one doesn't seem to fit well at all. Is this a common problem. BTW, I just bought this car in May, with 6K miles. Any advice appreciated.

The most recent issue of Mustangs and fast fords has a great article on installing the Maximum Motorsport bushing kit on the IRS of an 04 Cobra Convertable.

Talking hop

Congrats and welcome to the family! Get yourself some stickier tires This will also help wheel hop. When I had my vert, I couldn't find a cover to fit it either!

I used my boot cover one time, then got caught in the rain and had to stop and take the boot off and try and put it somewhere. I have the boot I just have never used it again.

Congrats on the new car.

I had bad wheel hop also, yet I have a coupe so it is worse in the verts I'm told. I changed out all my bushings and etc... Helped but didn't cure the entire problem. The best bet would be to get you some sticky tires (MT ET Radials) If it's your daily driver you probably wouldn't want to do that due to driving in the rain though.
To get rid of my hop I just chunked the IRS and installed a Solid axle, best mod yet!

Good luck getting everything worked out!

the best thing you can do right now for your vert is to have full length subframe connectors installed..this will go a long way to handle body flex which is very prevelent in a vert

different shocks, poly bushings and stickier tires can also be used if the subframes do not tame the wheel hop..each car will react differently and you may have to just go in stages but the subframes should be your first install..

Like Lynn said ... the full length subframe connectors make a huge difference! When I had the MM subframe connectors installed on mine it really stiffened up the car's flex! I have also installed the MM 4 pt. shock tower brace, Steeda sport springs, Steeda polyurethane bushing kit on irs & differential, along with the differential brace, wider rims & tires in the back, and my 03 vert is much different than when stock. As for wheel hop ... it is still there, less ... but still there. I have heard a sticky set of drag radials will help more ... I have Goodyear GSD3's and they handle well, but don't do much for the hop. As per the boot, mine fits okay. It has yet to come off and I have had it on at 100mph +, but I don't use it as much as before.

Have fun ... you will love your car!

Thanks for the input. I wondered about those skimpy connectors that are on the car. Back in the day :-)), I always used weld in connectors on drag race Camaros and Chevelles. Are you talking about weld in or bolt in? I am too busy rebuilding my Vette right now to get to it, but soon I hope.

weld in subframes are the only way to go...the verts do come with skimpy one's from the factory, but replace those ASAP and you'll notice a huge difference. A 4pt roll bar would help stiffen the chassis as well, just not sure how much it'll help with the wheel hop.

wheel hop can be tamed but never eliminated..it is the nature of the IRS.. only way to completely eliminate it is to go with a solid axle...feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about your vehicle... 864 332 0955 we've hads hundreds of them through our shop...
