01 Hp?

What's the rwhp on a stock '01? I always thought it was 320, but the more I read up on it, the more I see them dyno under 290.

MFG Horsepower ratings are what they expect at the crank, not at the wheels. It takes energy to transer that power through the drivetrain and to the wheels, so some of that power is lost in the process.

Given an estimated drivetrain loss of 15%, 320HP at the crank translates to 272 at the wheels.

Due to production tolerances the actual RWHP will vary from engine to engine and car to car. Some cars will make less, and some will make more than others. Also, different dynos will usually give different results.

The 2003's are a bit underrated by Ford, which is why you see RWHP numbers closer to the MFG crank rating.

I fully understand that horsepower is lost from flywheel to rear wheels, I was just under the impression they came from the factory at 320 rwhp. In that case, I can save some money and just buy a GT instead of a Cobra...only 12hp difference.

?? Since when did GT's come with 308hp? The new GT's are rated at 260hp, which roughly equates to to 215-220rwHP.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. ALL MFG horsepower ratings are at the crank and not the wheels.

The Cobras have 320, the GTs have 260 - both measured at the crank. There is a 60 HP difference in the engines, not 12.

Dude if you don't buy a snake you're going to get walked on by just about any cobra out on the street.

Maybe he is thinking of the Mach1 instead? Are they rated at 308 hp? ATW, try to remember that the new Mach 1 costs close to 30K and a new Cobra can be bought for 32K and there is a big difference in power on both of these vehicles.

Tony, I'm pretty sure the mach 1's are advertised as 305 hp.

Venom,

They are not rated at what the Cobras were before but are rated less like Matt stated because they have different cams and are supposed to be detuned. However, that didn't fly as a stock Mach 1 did much better then a stock 99-01 Cobra at the strip, go figure?

Either way, the Mach is a potent car against the 99-01 Cobras but will lose it's umph when it comes to an 03 Snake.

the 99-01's are rated at 320hp stock. The mach 1 is rated the same as the earlier modular cobras at 305 hp stock. Like Tony said, different cams, and tuning. I think the exhaust is a little more restrictive too. nothing an enthusiast can't cure =o)

MM&FF did a dyno run with a Mach1 and a '01 Cobra, stock. The Mach1 produced more HP and Torque than the Cobra. They added some minor bolt on goodies and it got quite impressive.

If my Cobra was stock I'd be smoked by a Mach.
