Question FR500 Steering wheel...

Where can i get one?

www.buyfordmotorsport.com has one but it doesn't say it is the FR500.

What all is involved in changing out the steering wheel?

is it hard?

thanks,

mike

If Joe Cool can do it, I'm sure you can too. I believe it is all bolt in but since we have some Open track gurus, like Tom and John, they can probably tell you what you need or who knows, maybe even help you out?

I would assume the job is pretty easy to do. I think tcrews swapped his out. Not sure though.

I have no experience removing the steering wheel though since I took out the entire column and wheel in one piece.

I want to do this swap as well but that is a chunk of change for metal, padding and leather.

I did mine, not too difficult. The instructions that come with the wheel are pretty good.

2 recommendations:

1) Put a washer or nut between the puller and the steering wheel shaft. The metal of the column was softer than the metal on the puller and I could see it starting to get marred by the puller before I backed off and used a nut as a spacer. The puller put a nice mark on the nut where it came into contact with it.

2) Get a torque wrench if you don't have one for torquing the bolt back on.

There is a mark on the wheel and on the shaft. On top of that, it really only goes on one way. There is a little bit of play in the fit before the nut is tightend, but not much. If the new wheel isn't centered (not likely but possible), you will need to get the front end adjusted to fix it.

Actually, there is only one bolt holding the wheel on the shaft (in the middle).

Yes it is a lot for metal, rubber, and padding. But if everyone had one, why would you want to...
