Cool!

Not sure what I could teach Cobra owners about driving, but I'd be willing to give it a try

Just as long as I get to follow big John around for a while I'd be happy...

I just want to make sure that the chili pepper doesn't sneak up on me and embarrass me...

I hope to make this event my first school and open track experience! I have a couple questions if someone has time.

What tires should I bring with me? I should have a new set of victoracers by then on my spare set of wheels.

Do I need to wait for my member number before sending in the event registration or can I just enter pending until I have it?

Thanks.

Calvin_1976 asked: What tires should I bring with me?

If it's your first open track experience - change the brake fluid, put on new pads, check your lug nuts - and stick with your current (stock) tires... you'll learn much more with tires that don't have as much grip!!!

I guess I should have said I have been autocrossing for the last year and spent that entire year on street tires to learn what the car will not do or rather what it will do on street tires. Do you still think I should start on street tires? I really want to get away from street tires and move up to something with some grip. Brake fluid, pads, and lug nuts have become a habit before events already and I always carry extra fluids and pads.

Go with exactly what Jim said. Stick with a good set of street tires, change the fluid and pads, and keep the sunny side up.

You don't have to wait for your membership number to pay for the event; however, it may benefit you somewhere down the road when you sign up.

Hope this helps out?

Autocrossing is a good start, you have learned the technique of crisis management in the car. But you'll find that your car will probably out run you in your first high speed event, don't worry, after a few events you'll catch up with it, we all do!!!

I can safely say that I thought I knew how to drive until I went to my first OTC, then I realized that I have a long way to go... and still do!!! It is a constant learning process, and once you get a taste for the track you'll be addicted to that learning process!!

Feel free to stop by anytime that weekend and I'll be glad to take you out and give you some pointers about CMP. I've driven a few hundred miles or so on that track!

Garry, Tony and I visited CMP yesterday. We got to do a few warm laps. I drove two in Tony's 94 and rode for two laps in Garrys. WWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. What a blast.

See ya there.

We had a good time huh Jeff? I wouldn't call them warm laps though. I had Pokey wide open at 95 mph so that tells me Fireball should hit triple digits with ease. His brakes were telling me that two laps on that course and you better have your brakes in good shape. I will admit, you will need to bring a couple of extra brake pads sets with you.

Going out to eat at Ryan's was fun too Jeff. We will have all of the information completed this weekend for the event so some of you can start downloading the event packet.

Jeff, thanks again for helping me with my surround system. I really appreciate it. It was fun watching the Matrix in its entirety at full sound. I thought the walls were going to rock....

Also, next time, let's have dinner at my house instead of you going home hungry, okay?

See you tomorrow

Yeah, you've gotta have your brakes in good shape for CMP. I had brake fade a few times coming into turn 1. It's scary when you push the pedal and it stops with only about 25% of its normal stopping power.

I had stainless lines installed before I went to CMP, and even had new fluid put in, but I didn't know the quality of the fluid made a difference. I had boilover a few times from "riding" the brakes too much on the first day. Don't use cheapo quaker state fluid. I hear the ford heavy duty is pretty good(which is what I'm going to use). Yeah, and bring an extra set of pads just in case.

Carbotech is testing a new brake compound this weekend at Seabring and it MIGHT be available by next week for sale. If not they recommend the Panther Plus compound for our cars at CMP. They are one of our Club Vendors and we get a 10% discount from them. I haven't used their pads yet but Tom Lewis seems to think they are good.
