Lots of good info here as I have to replace my Goodyears after only 8,600 miles. Ultimately it would be best to find a good street tire for everyday use and then get a set that is specifically made for drag racing or track events depending on what you want to do. |

As for the tires right now i have Goodyear Eagle F1-D3's this tire surprised me on how well it hooked and the dry and wet traction. But this summer my new rims ment new tires since the F1's ar 17's and i have 18's now. I would have gotten the F1's again but they dont make them in the sizes i wanted. So i am giving the new BFG KDW 2's a try to see how they work. awesome looking tread on them.. ill let yall know how they work out..

I run Cooper Zeon 2XS. Due to the alignment of the car, especially the camber, I did alot of research to find a good cheap tire for fear I would go through them fast. Although with the alignment to the extremes and 10,000 miles on these tires they are showing almost no wear, and they grip tremendously in the corners. Straight off the line traction is not all that great, but cornering is. For the price I could not find a better tire in my research and interviews of other road racers. Now if you are looking for something to hook off the line, these are NOT the tire for you. My 99 is essentially stock and I can go all the way through fourth if I keep on it.

Nitto drag radials, though i have not had them long, i've done plenty of burn outs and they still look new... hook up really well too!

I'm not going to a track. But what came with my car is some generic brand I can't even remember the name of and they're 'HR's or 'SR's instead of 'ZR's so they ain't that cool. 8000 miles on a Goodyear kind of sucks. |

There are definately a handfull of tires to coose from for stock wheels. Speed rating is just a number. It may be helpful to know that what is listed is the maximum (safe?) speed the tire can handle before it flies apart. Getting a good tire that will perform well and not wear out too quickly is difficult to find since it all depends on driving habbits. I only had one half day to test out the stock Eagle F1's on the 04 since I was swapping the stock wheels for the BBS wheels that were on the 01. The Eagle F1's were not all that bad of a tire. They were relatively quiet, rolled flawlessly, and left a thick rubber dust on the rear bumper cover and that was without breaking loose the rear. My guess is that they would wear quick. Michillin Pilot Sport AS tires were not all that bad either, but the compound was too hard. Tires broke too early in turns, they did not hook well in the rain, but they did wear like iron. If you are one of those who does not expeed the posted speed limits on highway ramps, or take turns on windy roads that is sure enough to make your passenger squirm (assuming you had a passenger), then they are not the tire for you. Since most car manufactures design a given amount of understeer into vehicles, BFG's comp T/A's had a bit of understeer on an 01. The Pilot sports made it worse.
So far, the Toyo Proxies T1S seem to be a great fit into my driving habits. Of course the 03/04 suspension is a bit different than the 01 so the understeer issue will not be as noticable. They seem a bit more ballanced than the old Bridgestone Potenza S-03's (pulling G's out of those on tight turns an easy chore, but they also track any abnormal road surface flaws at low speed, a very predictable tire when pushing it hard, expect a bit of oversteer when pushing the limits. Excellent in the rain too.). I did not choose the Proxies for rain driving, but as a cost alternative to the Bridgestone Potenza's . Toyo Proxies T1S: [r18x10, 285/35 $482 total, f18x8.5, 245/35 $406 total, ouch $888.00 for shoes] I have spent that on just the rear tires in the Bridgestones brand. I basically was looking for a tire with the most contact patch area without moving into drag radials. I was however, tempted to get a set of the BFG KDWII's because the tread looks aggresive. Believe it or not, they were basically designed for SUV's and small compact imports but they do cary sizes that will fit the mustang. I am interested how they hold up and how they perform.

Yah, that was me. I went to Nashville with my company for a conference. We used a rental car, and parked there for the carpool. I didn't get back till late and noticed that beautiful silver beast parked next to me. That is a very nice Cobra. And the Steeda's look alot better in person than I thought they would. But no I work in Oak Ridge, just parking for a carpool. I live in West Knoxville though. Hopefully see that nice car again soon. It really is a good looking car, and it stands out nicely.
