Before I report on the event itself let me just say that the SCMC "family" is alive and well. I had a serious brake problem and my ladyfriend, Cathy, even commented that "It's so cool that everybody here will do anything they can to help you." Thanks everyone for your concern and willingness to help whether or not you had the required parts. Thanks especially to Fred Fetzer for your spare rear caliper bracket, Dave Diehl for a caliper slider from your gorgeous but sadly broken Cobra R (and an offer to cannibalize as necessary!), Lew Groth for use of the "official Ford brake bleeding tool" that I forgot, Larry Bolton for help in diagnosing the NEW problem and Tim DelSanto for washers to space out the bracket that inexplicably didn't quite fit right. You guys really saved my a... ummm day!

We had SCMC members from all over the eastern half of the country, and Canada too! The weather was perfect, though a bit cold at night. By mid-morning the sun had the temps in the t-shirt range, but it never got hot. The event itself ran smooth as silk thanks to Dean's leadership, and the very friendly GingerMan staff. I saw some definite improvement in many of the drivers, and I think we have some more track-a-holics in the making. Lunches were excellent, you don't get food like this at most track events, and no one left the lunch room hungry. Even a Sunday power outage barely effected the track activities.

Thanks everybody, for a great weekend! (Oh, I almost forgot something I read... Lew Rules! ;-)

GREAT EVENT!

Thanks to the SCMC and everyone that made this event run sooo smoothly. It was my first event, but It won't be my last. All the people I met were fantastic. Great Job!

p.s. I need a second job to pay for all the extra track stuff that
I saw at the track. Yes I'm HOOKED!

As usual, great time guys!

I added photos to my site:
http://dariusrudis.com/mustang/events/2003_09_SCMC

p.s. These were quickly thrown up there, without any care for quality nor content (quick algorithm for fast load on web)... I'll post-proces the digital photos later and sharpen them up considerably...

Great pictures Darius....

Had a great time at the event, but like Tom, I need to give my thanks to members and especially Dean also.....

On my 4th session my car developed a bad vibration. Pulled of track. Couple of us thought it sounded like a broken valve spring.

Dean was gracious enough to allow me to use his truck and trailer to get my car back home. Thanks again Dean, you are a classy guy!

Pulled the upper intake and valve covers yesterday but could find no broken springs. Looking around I discovered the crank dampner blew apart on me and had slid back to where it was rubbung on the water pump and timing cover. Believe it or not, that put me in a lot better mood than when I thought the problem was internal. Have some work to do on the car though.

Unhappy

Dave,

Sorry to hear about that but it could have been worse as you could have thrown a rod with the engine being out of balance.

Remember, the balancers are pressed on in a certain position and it is done by machine. There is a thin rubber strip in between the two pieces to absorb the vibration. I would recommend getting a new balancer rather then fixing the old one. Let us know how it turns out!

Tony

Wow...what a weekend!

Yes...without a doubt Gingerman 2003 will be one to remeber. I enjoyed the heck out of spending time with everyone there. Even though my weekend was marred by a bit of an off track excursion with a very sudden stop. Now to put it back together.....or better yet...."make it better".

I would offer my heartfelt thanks to all of those that made sure my eyes weren't crossed and I was able to keep moving. The safety crew at Gingerman was right there...first class operation!

I appreciate everyone's concern and offers of help to put it back together....if there would have been a spare axle, brake caliper, and a portapower...we might have been able to pull it off.

I do thank each and everyone that allowed me some ride-along time....we have a bunch of very talented drivers in this group, many of whom I will never hold a candle to!

Lets do it again! (but don't mind if I do it differently this time ~lol~)

Dave -- we all felt for you and most of us understand exactly how you feel..... and yes -- let's do it again -- differently from both aspects...

Here's some more info on Gingerman:

http://www.svtcobraclub.com/svtbbs2/...208#post106208

Dave -- we didn't get to say goodbye -- I looked for you several times but couldn't find you...

I don't think you had a chance to meet my daughter Tammy and you didn't get to drive Miss T......

I did see that you were given lots of rides and drives so I hope that you see how special you are to us!!

You guys were out flogging around the track when I left....I would have waited but with the open seesion you might not have been in until midnight. It was good seeing everyone...yes I met your daughter and son-in-law...by the way she makes fabulous cookies!

I hope the GT made it home....it should be like a new car now ~lol~

Take care!

Well, I guess Tom just about said it all....it was definately a blast, perfect weather (except for the hurricane conditions in PA and OH) a great track, and as I had said to Lew and Liz, I dont know what I enjoy more, the driving, or being able to hang out with those that I have met at the events....what a great group!!!!

Gingerman is my favorite track, and the 1st one I had ever been on, just 15 short months ago....how time flies....I just wish it was a bit closer to home, as 765 miles each way can be pretty boring, not to mention costly....but count me in next year!!!!

Thanks again to everyone who made it happen

PS: what does Lew Rule???

(ppsssstttt......better check the video tape)

This was IMHO the best Gingerman event yet out of three. The weather was perfect, the food was great, and the people as always are the best around.

My heart was out to those with mechanical wows, it's no fun watching everyone else out there when all you really want to do is be running with them.

Dean, with all you have on your plate I don't know how you managed to pull off the best one yet but you did. Great job!

Darius, thanks for the pictures. They are professional looking and it looks like you got some shots of everyone.

Mike and Thomas, wish you could have had another day at least on track. Hope the new rear end works out to your liking. Maybe next year I can get on the track with you, this year didn't work out the way I'd hoped.

Dave D., if you need a hand I'm only an hour up the road. Let me know.

Thanks to all for a great experience once again.

me?

Out until midnight?

no --- not with Miss T -
I had one good run and then I parked it for the day.
Too much rubber and junk on the track .... and it was better to quit while I was ahead.
I wasn't able to drive the GT and I'm not able to "ride" with anyone -- sooooo.....

I think we just plain kept missing each other..

anyway -- here's a hug from Illinois ..... and I'm glad you liked my daughters cookies! she's alot better cook than I am.

The GT made it home safely and YES!
its like a new car -- running beautifully except we need to get the electrical stuff straightened out and get the throw out bearing repaired....

and get those 3.73 gears in ....

Ken ---

were all glad that you came and that you had a good time !!

Thanks again for the ride for my nephew -- he still has a grin from ear to ear!!

I'd ask for one myself if I could ride -- but I know how very special a Cobra R is, and John said it was "fast and fun", so thats good enough for me.!!

hope ya had a good trip home!

here's a picture of Tim and Dave working on Bandit
