Voltage spikes

I started my 04 redfire yesterday. It hadnt been statred for about 2 weeks. When it started, all the gauges jumped to max (speedo, tach, gas, etc.) After about 1 second they returned to normal and everything seems OK.

I read that turning on the heater blower would absorb any voltage spikes when boosting to start. The car was not boosted to start it.

My car has sat in the garage for a few months but was started @ 2 weeks ago.

Should I be concerned?

Did you have the battery unhooked at any time during the time you didn't drive your car? When you start your car and all the gauges reset it's usually due to the battery being replaced of the computer resetting itself.

I think you're fine

no battery was not unhooked/replaced. I do remember someone talking about the computer resetting sometimes.

Thanks

Happen to me a few months ago also. I haven't had any problems. My cobra sits a few weeks at a time too. My guess is a diagnostic check the computer runs every so often to check proper gauge function. Just a guess. I have heard these cars will throw a check engine light for a faulty windsheild washer fluid motor. Not sure if I believe that but who knows. Cars today have some really great self diagnostic features. Just imagine when ODB III comes along. Keep us posted if you run into a problem
