I was wondering if I need an additional idler with running a 2.93 pulley. I don't notice any slippage but I was curious if I should add one for insurance.
Thank You for the help and your time to help with my ? Larry

I put one on and then I took it off - it was noisy, in the way, and just extra weight - save your money.

It all depends on the belt length. The idler pully will increase belt wrap on the supercharger pully which in turn will reduce slippage of the belt. If you decide to get a set, go with billetflow or Richard Racing. Note: the use of idler pullies will require removal of the belt cover as well as a longer belt. This may look cool but can lead to missing fingers if you put your hands where they should not be if the motor is running. As far as added weight, it would weigh as much as that cheeseburger you had for lunch. With the smaller Supercharger pully, some leverage is lost due to the reduced size which translates into slightly more horse power to turn the rotors and at a sudden change in RPM such as launching or speed shifting down a race track the belt has a tendancy to slip on the pully surface. If what you have now works it probably is not important to change it.

With the 2.93 and 4pc. Idler set from Billetflow, the stock belt is utilized which makes it great, plus it looks bad ass. That's the setup I'm running.

I would not get an auxillary idler if you are not getting belt slip...some sets ups get it and others dont.. if you do decide..Metco makes a top quality hardcoated pulley that resists fading and scratching...and RR makes a double bearing pulley that matchs with their blower pulley..

I second buying the Billetflow idlers. They are top quality products and Doug will guarantee them 100% (and you will be supporting a product made in Michigan). You should replace the stock bottom idler; there have been dozens of them that have exploded.

lots of good choices for aftermarket idlers and as stated should be done as a safety issue..I have an exploded stock idler pulley on my desk for emphasis..this happens far too frequently with the stock idlers and can cause damage under the hood.

For those that have the exploded idler pully or know about that issue, is it due to changing the supercharger pully or just a matter of time if nothing was changed? I know what could happen if the tension arm breaks since I had that happen to my Explorer (at least it was in the driveway when it happened and not while on the road).

changing the blower pulley is not a single contributiong factor..the stock idlers are just weak and very poorly designed...we've seen them go bad under many different circumstances
