belt squeal

to air force I have an 03. After messing with my car for a while I think ive located the general area where the sqealing is happening. It looks like right where the 6lb lower and the idler are, you know where that silver braket plate is. Now the guy that installed it said you could only put that idler pulley in one of 2 hole, they mounted it in the bottom hole. If they mounted in the high hole they said the belt would have been even shorter so I think they mounted it right. Either way Im still not sure if this NAPA belt is the problem (I just got sent the 81 inch gator back belt that im gonna put on just to see what happens) or if the idler pulley is going bad because of to much stress on it. Or if the 6lb lower and the idler are to close or something Im not really sure what to do next. some have said belt dressing and some have said not to . I would like to know what shannon has to say about this, he seemed to know alot about these. Anyone haveany ideas what to do .

I've only delt with belt squeel when the belt gets wet or has become glazed. I can only suggest getting the Riechard Racing manual tensioner. They are great save for belt issues. Plus you can run one size for a number of different pulley set-ups you may want to run.

sorry I didnt update the squeeling issue. It turns out that the guy who did my install put the aux idler next to my lower in the wrong set of holes. The set of holes he put them in was to close for a 6lb set up causing the lower and idler and the belt to squeeze together just enough. I guess the guy needs to learn how to read a bit better.

That makes sense, I'm glad you got it all figured out.
