Smoking motor update...

Well, the block is chewed up. The #4 cylinder is the worst, but there is a bit of damage on a few more. Lester found fine metal bits in the pan and around the rings which almost feels like sand. Needless to say, MAC will be hearing from me about their longtubes. They won't own up to it, but I think I should be heard.

The block is being shipped to Modular performance the end of the week to be bored and re-sleeved to a 5.0 "big bore" with 304 cubes. It will be honed and installed with Diamond pistons, manley rods, and ARP studs will be added before being line honed. In the interim, Lester will be doing a port/polish/valve job on the heads and installing FR500 cams and valve kit. I also sucked it up and decided to put the FR500 race intake on it (ouch at the price). It should put out anywhere from 425-475 rwhp depending on the tune. We'll be upgrading the fuel pump (focus pumps) and injectors. I guess I decided (with the help of John Pearson, who my wife reluctantly sends hugs and kisses) that it's cheaper to do it now, than down the road.

The block should be back within 15 days, so we should be rolling within a month. I'll keep you OT guys updated as to the progress with some pics. I hate I missed CMP, but I guess that's the way things go sometimes.

Btw.........I just ordered BBK longtubes. Anyone want some used MAC longtubes for a 99-04? I would recommend doing an EGR delete before putting them on.

Which MAC long tubes did you have? Did you have the HTS coated versions or the ones that are polished ceramic coated? I have heard of a few horror stories from the MAC long tubes in the past... but none here as of recent times.

I've had the TF9902 ceramic long tubes from MAC on my Cobra for two years now with no problems whatsoever. Has never used a drop of oil in 33,000 + miles now and has made in excess of 600 + to the tires for almost half that

Sorry for your troubles... it will be better once it's back in it's rightful place

Destroyed my block. I ordered ceramic coated BBK's. I hope that will be OK. I'm scared to death.

Wow, that motor should be a BLAST on track...well, pretty much anywhere!

Hope things come together quickly, we've been down that road too...make sure you get a really good tune. Its probably one of the most important aspects, IMO of course.

Yeah, Lester is going to be with the tuner when it's getting done. I've requested that much.

Update:

5.0 big bore block should be finished and shipped back to me by the end of the week. I have all parts, FR500 valvetrain, BBK ceramic headers, GT supercar fuel pump, 42lb injectors, MSD window switch (for runner controller on FR500 intake), Billet oil pump gears, Diamond pistons, Manley rods, ARP studs, Cometic gaskets, and ATI super Damper. FR500 intake due to be shipped May 16th. It should be pretty nice once it's all said and done. I'm sure Lester is going to have a blast with it!
