Subframes...EXPENSIVE TO INSTALL

Man, I got three quotes today to have my some subframes installed. All three were $300. Holy smokes. Last year I had a shop install subframes, irs bushings, diff bushings, ss brake lines, springs, c/c plates, front sway, rear strut, and my x-pipe, and they only charged me 700 (I know what some of you who know me are thinking...well, of course they only charged you 700, they did a piss poor job ) Just didn't realize subframes were going to be a $450 mod. I know I have to do it, but geezzzz.

That just can't be right. Keep looking! I had some installed on my other car for a heck of a lot less!

Are the factory ones welded or do they bolt in?

THe ones that I am taking off are bolt-on(the factory ones). I am planning on getting MM Full-length, and those are weld-in. I know that the underbody has to be grinded down to bare metal, and then welded. But holy cow, 300. Both the places you recommended chris say 250-300. And then the place that I had install the heli-coil also said 300.

That seems very expensive to me. I had MM full length sub's put on at an all ford shop in Vancouver, WA and they charged me two full hours and it cost me $150. And that's with grinding, and painting them afterwards, since I bought the bare metal ones.

I had custom Sub-frames put on that were very close to spec and design to the MM ones for $200. That's for the sub-frames and installion.

If you want, when you get ready to put them on, you can come down to my place and I'll help and do the welding. I have a mig in the shop and it shouldn't take but a couple of hours.

Sweet chris, have you every done anything like that berfore? What kind of lift do you have? From what I have heard, you have to have a drive on lift to weld them on. Hope to hear from you, both my father and I are looking to have them welded in.

I looked at the directions on MM website, we should be able to do it without a lift. It should be up high enough on jackstands to get everything lined up and welded in place. As far as doing something like that, yeah me and a friend did them in the Camaro I drag raced along with the roll cage and some other chasis bracing so it should be no problem for these at all. The connectors I had on the Camaro required you to slit places in the floor for them to sit in and then weld them into the floorpan, these look much simpler than those were.

Sounds sweet, will will have to look at our schedules, and see when you are free. I just know people have made quite a point that they need to be welded in place with the frame weight under load, and not jacked up funny. So we would have to jack it up, and put blocks or something under the wheels to simulate a full load. Just let me know what you think, and I will order the subframes. Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon, Mike

All you have to do is make sure that your suspension is fully loaded when welding up the subframes (ie: on a 4-post lift or jackstands). We charge $175 to weld them in place and paint them also. It's not that difficult of a procedure, just takes a little time b/c you dont want to go through to the carpet when welding . I would say all in all, it should take no more than 4 hours.

That's what I was thinking as long as the jackstands are under the under the suspension near the wheels the load should be about the same. July 8th would probably be the first chance I'd have to do as the next three weekends are full.
