97's Suck!

How about handling mods? Subframe connectors with jacking rails. Fairly inexpensive but it's one of those mods you can actually feel and appreciate. Also, steel braided brake lines.

Perhaps over time, gather up some high pressure air add-ons?

this is my first cobra and it's a nice one so i feel it's worht the time to add a few stop light surprises !! surperG what did your vortech system set you back ?? and what else did you do to the motor if anything when you added it ? plus what was the hp increase ? I've had a few mustangs an 87 & 88 gt 5.0 which were fun cars but they don't compare to my 97. being that i'm a newbe how easy is it to post a pic to this tread ? thanks

I have a 99 cobra. I got an hypertech programmer. I didnt see a very big difference. If you going to drive the car everyday you can change the gears in it. I would go with a 355 to a 373. A 410 in a everyday car will put a lot of strain on the car.

Rob...I cheated. The previous owner added $9000 in parts and labor and I bought the car from him for $10k. It's actually a project car...just ask anyone around here!

However, here's what I can say. A new standard Vortech kit will set you back roughly $5-6k. There are some changes I have made that I recommend to anyone getting a S/C, but we can go into that some other time. Then there is installation. Geting a good software package and finding someone who knows how to tune, expect 400 rwhp +/- 20. For more info on the parts and installation go here:

http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/

After that, new engine components are required or Kablooie!

In the meantime, aside from power adders, handling mods go a LONG way. A couple of guys here have N/A Cobras, but their handling is so good, that it takes a lot of horsepower to keep up (that's at a roundy-round track).

Posting pics: Upload your pics to a photo site such as Cardomain. From there, you can use the photo's link to post here as either an http: address or as posting the photo to the pages here by adding the link inside .

So enjoy the car the way it is now. Get to know her, then start adding a few bucks worth of mods here and there...Have fun!!

Don't go less than 4:10's with the gear change! They are an awesome gear to have for the street! This would be one of the first mods I made, too...

thanks for the input guy's . gears sound like a good starting point , as well as a few other mods . where can i get a good set of under drive pulleys ? an does it add anything ? I noticed the other day when I was driving that there was transmission noise coming from around the shifter area nothing bad just louder than I thought it should be , so I unscrewed the shift knob an pulled up the boot an saw that for 1 it had a b&m plate mounted to the trans which is a short through shifter ??? and 2 there was no pading between the top of the trans and the plastic console piece ? there should be something there right ?? is b&m a good shifter fot the stang ? also there is a slight tear in the drivers seat is there a good sorce for replacment covers ? thanks

You can order new leather seat covers from several different sources, Texas Mustang Parts, Mustangs Unlimited, but I found out they all order from the same place. (I am at work right now but tonight I will find out the name of the company that they order from.)

I did mine this last spring, very nice, the hard part was taking the old covers off without damaging the foam.
Plus I had someone that did this sort of work for a living (and had the tools) and with him and 6 other friends we got it done on a Saturday.
I had a Pro 5.0 shifter put in and noticed a little extra noise (no padding either but its not that loud.)
the Vortech with 4:10 gears and some chassis upgrades, will open your Cobra up
