1999 Cobra Conv.getting harder to shift.

I am the new kid on the block, with a question. I have a 1999 Cobra Conv. (White) with 60k miles. Bought it with 51k. I have noticed it seems to be getting harder to shift from 1st to 2nd. Has a lot of bumping going on, not grinding. I replaced the stock shifter with a B&M short throw. It is smoother shifting but still the bumping going on. Seems less at higher rpm's. A local speed shop stated these tranny's are known to go bad around 60k. I have power shifted 1st to 2nd only a couple of times

(well probably closer to 20

). My wife and I just like to cruise the back roads and visit the mountains with the top down. I do air it out from time to time.

Would changing the oil in tranny or any other suggestions help the problem or I am iI headed toward a new transmission or rebuilted? the only other Mod is BK Cold air kit. Trying to keep close to stock for now. Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to our forums and we hope you'll hang around a while. 99 Cobras are not really known for having the transmissions to go out. Your problem is most likely in the clutch/pressure plate area or throwout bearing.

While the tramsmission may be the problem, I'd have to have those items looked at first before I went into getting an expensive overhaul. Since you said you power shifted, it makes me think the tranny was abused along with the clutch assembly??

Since you have an aftermarket shifter, it may not be adjusted right. Be sure the shifter is at the correct adjustment or other wise you may feel the bump you are talking about and will be hard to shift. Make sure all of the connection bolts are tight on the shifter. Other items may be a bent shift fork in the transmssion.

Thanks for the reply is there a easy way to check are know if clutch is going bad? Are will it have to be pulled out. From my early years I remember someone saying that if you could start off in 3rd with no gas from a stop the clutch was sliping and needed to be replaced.
