wheel offset question

I have a chance to buy a set of Helo wheels for a good price. They look great and the lady who has them for sale tells me she bought them for her '94 GT a few years ago but never got around to putting them on. They are still new in the box and have never been mounted but the boxes are dated 2001 for the front wheels and 2002 for the rear wheels. I have a '99 SVT Cobra and would love to buy these but sure don’t want to buy them and find out that they won’t fit.

The question I have is how do you figure out what "offset" will fit and what "offset" won't fit? The front wheels are 17"x9" with an offset of +36 mm, the rear wheels are 18"x9" with an offset of +24 mm.

Does anyone know of a way to check on what "offset" works and what "offset" doesn't work?

Thanks,
John

I believe if you go to a website like tire rack or discount tires it will list what offset will work with your car. You might have do a mock sale of rims, can't remember for sure. But I think that sounds right for the offsets. Can't remember off the top of my head, but sounds like the right offsets.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take a look at those sites.

I see you have a Steeda bumpsteer kit, just wondering if you installed it yourself and if you do, was it a pain in the butt or fairly easy? The reason I ask is I have the same kit but so far no one I've talked with here in Anchorage has a clue what they are.

Thanks,
John

You're welcome.

No, I didn't install the bumpsteer kit or the balljoints. I would have had to get it aligned anyways, so I had the shop install both parts that did my weighted alignment. I wouldn't imagine the bumpsteer kit being that hard to intall. I looked at the instructions, and figured I could do it, but chose not to (too lazy).

The standard offset for a 99 is +24. The higher the offset number, the further in the wheel will mount.
If you mount the fronts and think they sit in too far, you can get a set of hubcentric spacers and use them. I did on my '04.
Lightning Force has a really good set for 89.00.
3/8" equals about 9 1/2 mm which in effect would make the wheel a +26mm offset.
Spacers can be found here.. http://www.lightningforceperformance...kit-p-514.html

Thumbs up

Thanks Dean, that's great to know and I appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me and giving the website for the spacers.

Here is a good site to help with your offsets.
