Which lens to get, need help

OK I have a Nikon D80 and want to get a better lens other than the kit lens. I want to be able to shoot fast action pics as well as still pics indoors, zoos, or anywhere there may be close quarters. Now I know 1 lens won't do all this so I will need about 2 or 3 total when all said and done. I think my top priority would be the zoom lens and then maybe the wide angle lens. Now here comes the tricky part, my kit lense is a 18-135mm non VR lense and if I buy a new zoom lens it will cover more distance but I will be having 2 lenses that are basically in the same range class almost. I want a VR lense most definately but what range lense I don't know. Would it be wise to sell the lense I have and start fresh with all new lenses or don't worry about if 2 lenses are close.
Now which setup would be better for me: a 16-85mm wide angle lens and a 70-200mm or a 70-300mm. Or get the 10-20mm wide angle and a 18-200mm or possibly a 18-300mm lenses.
If none of these which lenses would be better to get to cover a wide variety of stuff. Thanks Chris
