Started out with Z06 vs new 2003 Viper comparison.

Next they reviewed the AC Shelby Cobra - the 289 FIA and 427 S/C Cobras. Then they reviewed the NEW Shelby Series 1. The bad news about the new Shelby is that it uses a GM engine (from the Series 1 web site - "a specially-modified aluminum Oldsmobile Aurora V8 with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder"). They did a comparo between all three.

When I did the Derek Daly road racing class earlier this year in Las Vegas, we visited the Shelby manufacturing facility (directly near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway) and one of the guys in our class had just taken delivery of a brand new Series 1.

Folks, this is one amazing car!!! Plain and simple!! Even with the GM motor. Trust me on this, this thing has LOADS of power all the way across the power band and handles like a dream!!! The Aurora motor has so far proven to be bullet-proof in the car also.

The one my friend bought was also out-fitted with a supercharger, bumping output to over 550+ HP and almost 600 pounds of torque!! And all inside an all aluminum frame car with a carbon fiber body, weighing only 2800 pounds!! What a machine!! The only real downside is the price.. as you would expect, for a space age frame supercar, it is not cheap... about $140K for a normally aspirated version, and just shy of $200K for the one my friend bought. 0-60 times on his are just under 4 seconds, with a top speed of right near 200!!!!

I also got to get a glimpse of the upcoming 40th anniversary Shelby Cobra... very nice!! By the way, you can get a real Shelby Cobra (brand new) with a 1965 VIN directly from Shelby for only $70K, of course with no engine or tranny. A fully decked out 427 version will cost you around $100-120K or so... but it will be the real deal!
