Roll Cage Help

I'm guessing everyone pretty much goes by the SCCA specs when building a cage....I know it was posted in here a while ago, but can someone please post them again? all info/advice is appreciated.....Thanks!

Ken,

Is this cage for the R? and if so, will you or are you planning on running in a SCCA or NASA series? actually racing? if so, there are some guys here like Kevin Rogers who can shed some light on this subject. Otherwise, you can just get a cage like mine which is about 95% SCCA/NASA spec.

If you plan to use DOM steel? I think the current specs call for .120 mil thickness and 1-3/4" diameter, which is what I have in my car.

Both SCCA and NASA require DOM tubing now, so make sure you use that.

Guys, Thanks for the info

I'm planning to have the cage built to meet the SCCA / NASA specs using 1.75 dia x .120 wall DOM tubing....it'll be almost identical to yours, andy....but I have a question - what makes yours about 95% scca / nasa spec?

I'm not planning on racing it now, BUT, who knows down the road?

The AI / AIX guys look like they are having way to much fun

Ken,

I think SCCA/NASA require an additional horizontal bar underneath the steering column?? Kevin could probably shed some light on this? otherwise, mine should meet specs. So, if ever I go racing with the car, all I would need to do is add the additional bar? I am also not sure my side bars meet specs? They may need to be altered?

What I would do if I went racing with the R?... is take all the interior trim out, including the dash... and then alter the roll cage accordingly. Not likely I'm going racing any time soon with the R though, if ever? I would likely instead purchase a cheap, expendable, car to go racing... maybe a Spec Miata? You can get a good one for under $10K.

just to clarify. scca requires a cage for a car 3001 - 4000 lbs. to be DOM/seamless/alloy 1.75x.120.

the extent to which the cage is built is to some degree determined by the class. a touring class is less intrusive on the interior that a gt class, for example.

if you have axcess to an scca rule book page 134+ (or nasa) you will find several other requirements.

andy, you do need a bar going from side to side under the dash (according to the diagram in the scca rule book)
