which un's to get (suspension)
Hey all --
Looking for some insight on suspension for a 98 cobra coupe. Looking at H&R or Eibach pro's for springs. Shocks either Edelbrock IAS, Koni Yellow, or Tokico's. I want a noticeable drop, but not slammed or too harsh (it's a street/daily driver). Will I need C/C plates for any of these setups? Don't want to spend a fortune, but don't want to buy crap either. Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks! |

I would recmend Eibach springs for a daily driver, the sportline i think they are called? whichever is the lesser lowering of the two most popular kits eibach sells. its noticable, but still very manageable with driveways and whatnot. check out this page, some pics of my car on the eibachs so you can get an idea of how it will look.

oh, CC plates, i dont run them yet, but i am going to soon. with only 1.5" of lowering i think you can get away without running CC plates to correct the camber unless you are noticing a lot of inside tire wear. but the way i see it, if you are going to buy springs and shocks, and have all that apart, may as well put on CC plates too so you will have the adjustability later if you need it, and they look cool too...

Didn't you mean the SPORTLINES have the lowest drop?? I'd also look into Steeda Sport Springs. They lower the car about an inch to an inch and a quarter. Visit www.kennybrown.com they also have a very good kit for your car. They've helped out many members of this club, and we also get a NICE discount from them.

I just installed the Eibach Pro System Plus in my 97 Cobra Convertible. The kit consists of Lowering Springs, shocks and sway bars. At the same time I put a set of 18's on the car and replaced the rear upper and lower control arms to tubular and also replaced the rubber bushings to polyurethane. I replace the front A-Arm bushings as well to poly. Im very happy with the kit as the ride quality did not decrease as much as i thought it would, and the car is glued to the road and handles like a champ. The only bad thing is the car doens't launch well at all now since theres no weight transfer because the car is so stiff. As for the Camber/Caster plates, the car needs them and im going to purchase this week. Its been raining on Long Island for like the past 3 weeks so I dont have any pics of the car yet. As soon as the weather breaks I will post a few.

when he said "lowest" he may have meant "least" 1.5 is lower (less) than 2.0, but the car is actually higher.
regardless, I think the point was the pro kit are the ones they suggest. I suggest H&R springs. I have them on my car. FYI- I have a set of H&R sport springs for sale. I switched to the stiffer race springs for trackuse. The sport springs are good for every day driving and occasional track use. I used them for two years of street driving and they are nice. Perfect ride height, too. link in my sig.

Be careful with lowering your car - more than 1.5 inches may lead to tire clearance/shock bottoming issues. I would suggest Hyperco or H&R as Eibach had had quality control problems in the past.
When you do springs/shocks, would suggest doing camber plates and strut tower brace at the same time.....you must dis-assemble those parts - this way you only pay for the labor once.....check out the CC plates from KB, theirs has caster pre-set, which makes setting camber MUCH easier...... |

H&R's
Here is a shot of my '01 Cobra with H&R Supersports & Bilsteins....
Its fairly low, but the ride/handling is great. The "wonderful" pavement here in the Boston area has taken its toll on my exhaust system (I have a well dented bassani muffler, and the bottom heatshields on my cats have been scraped away..). If I had to do it over, I might have tried the Steeda springs or just go with a total coil-over solution. If I was in an area minus the foot deep potholes and the joys of the "Big Dig", I would heartily recommend the H&R's. (or if I had an exhaust that didnt hang quite so low as the bassani)...
