Talking SCMC Mississippi River Run -- October 3-5, 2003 for MN, IA, IL, WI members

Mississippi River Run--October 4-5, 2003 --Iowa, IL, WI, or MN members should contact Brian Groth if you plan to attend this cruise up the Mississippi. The list of members that are going so far is:

Brian Groth- 2000 Cobra R
Tom Gentry- 1996 Mystic
Dave and Edith Stuart-1994 Rio Red Cobra
Mike Millage- 2001 Mineral Gray Conv
Lew & Liz Groth- 1995 Cobra R

I know there are several more of you but you have to let Brian know if you are going. E-mail him at grothimp@cannon.net if you plan to attend so he can update me, thanks.

Information below:

For those choosing to join the SCMC Mississippi River Run Friday October 3, there is plenty to enjoy in Dubuque, IA. We have arranged a group rate at Holiday Inn, Dubuque Five Flags of $89. You can make reservations by calling 1-563-556-2000, be sure to mention that you're with the "Cobra Mustang Club" to get our rate. Many of Dubuques attractions are within an easy walk of this hotel.

The Mississippi River Museum ( http://www.mississippirivermuseum.com/ ) documents
the rich history of riverboats and life on the Mississippi. While there, be sure to walk the deck of the William M. Black, a restored paddle wheeler. Other boats of interest in Dubuque are The Spirit of Dubuque, a paddle wheeler that offers river cruises, and the Diamond Jo, a riverboat casino that also plies the Mississippi.

To get a good overview of the area, including the Mississippi and the neighboring states of Illinois and Wisconsin, ride the Fenelon Place Elevator (http://www.dbq.com/fenplco/), an inclined railway that's billed as the world's shortest, steepest scenic railway. It's also fairly old, having originally been built in 1882. The city's historic architecture is on display at Cable Car Square, an area of restored homes that now house antiques and arts and crafts shops. The Old Jail Art Gallery is a cast-iron building from the 1850s -- it's one of only a handful of Egyptian Revival buildings still in existence. Another unusual building is the Old Shot Tower, located on the Mississippi, which was originally used for molding lead shot in the 1800s.

Also within easy walking distance of our hotel, is Bricktown Brewery and Blackwater Grill
(http://www.bricktowndubuque.com/). Located in a renovated wagon factory built in the mid 1800's.

On Saturday, October 4 we will leave the hotel parking lot at 10am for a scenic along the Great River Road (http://www.riverroads.com) arriving in LaCrosse, WI around dinner time.

Brian Groth - grothimp@cannon.net

Thanks

If people have questions or want to add thier name to the list, lets post it in here. If you have something private to discuss, either call or email me. grothimp@cannon.net

You do NOT need to be added to the list to come, make your reservations and be ready to have fun saturday.

For people that are arriving friday night, we will meet and hang out in the hotel parking lot. If we have interest we will go out for dinner together also.

Rooms reserved. I imagine we will arrive around 3pm Friday. Give or take.

Hanging around the parking lot and out to eat sounds good to us.
