SCMC 5th - Drag race discussion
(this is continued from
http://www.svtcobraclub.com/forums/s...346#post125346 oh yeah ! I figured out what part of my "problem" was -- everyone told me that my reaction time was very off - and they were right (had to be on medication for the trip...) however - I also found out and the boys agree that there was a slight vacume leak which is presently causing a slight delay in take off on the Mach -- K & N is doing some experiencing and they are not quite finished with it yet - both Tom and I felt an extremely slight "break up" -- I was unsure but driving it home and driving it around here confirms it -- time to get the stock air kit back on and or get K & N to supply the next part..... this car used to really light up from launch..... but, we will fix that, and thats what experimenting is all about.. the Mach really would make an awesome drag racing car -- right Tom?

Mach 1 / WRX sti
by the way --
I was bad --- I raced a Subaru WRX sti the other day... on the street.... anyway - I won by half a nose - however - my son claims that it wasn't an STI --- that it isn't possible to beat it with a Mach? however, and in my defense --- the guy drove up to me after the fact, asked me to roll my window down and said and I quote " let me know first next time if you wanna race " what? nope - I won fair and square... even with a slight vacume leak.... any comments on the STI / Mach 1 ? I have done some research on the sti and it is feasible for the Mach to take it -- driver versus driver - he was behind and I shouldn't have to tell "competition" that I'm going to be taking off to see how the Mach does against it.... and ... don't try this at home - I know its wrong.... but don't worry, it was away from town - away from traffic -

by the way -
we are very proud of our son - he's an excellant driver! however - I need him to remember that you cannot expect to drag race a car and drive it in the mountains unless you help to: KEEP IT CLEAN !!!!!!!!

What were your times Bonny? Reaction time effects who wins or loses, but has absolutely zero effect on ET. Check out my vid from that night on this thread:

Josh is right, in competition, the reaction time is added to your time so if you have a .5 reaction time and ran a 13.0 your times would be a 13.5.
But your standard "test and tune" situation, which is what we were running at the 5th, you run time does not start till after you have reacted.

I've got a few pointers for ya for driving on the strip Bonny.
1. If you run street tires, stay away from the water box 2. On street tires, a short quick burnout to clean the tires is best 3. Try to stage as "shallow" as possible for quickest ET. (by shallow, I mean barely lighting up the "stage" light. 4. Reaction time on a sportsman tree (like we were using in TN) is basically a "I can time this because I do this a lot" tree. 5. A good place to start is...... On the last amber light, GO! Don't wait for green, and don't anticipate the last amber. If you go when the last amber light illuminates, you'll be in good shape.

that is good to know! I need to learn more about drag racing... however - I do know from some recent "tests" that if you try to "punch" the accelerator on the Mach right now -- the car will start "rolling" but it won't kick in like it used to --- so - my times were absolutely horrible... you don't want to know.... I reacted and rolled so the time must've started - right? don't worry -- we'll have the Mach right soon -- this is good for my son's future "hot rod" experience... you gotta admit though -- your average driver wouldn't be able to be that "in tune" to a car to notice the slight "break up" that the Mach 1 currently has -- it is ever so subtle... the guys didn't even believe me until they found out for themselves...
