Are these good tires for open track/autocross? I can get a set for $540.00 and wanted to know if this was a good price/tire?
Thanks, Tony

NOOOOO!!! We had a member with a 03 go to TWS on Thursday with KDW-S's, and he said CHUNKS of tread were tearing off the tire. Granted it was 95 degrees out. Here is the post he made (excert from the SCC TWS today thread) But any tire with a 400 tread wear rating is NOT gonna grip good for OT (your stock F1 GS's have a 300 tread wear rating, the lower the number, the softer the tire, the better grip and adversly, the quicker the wear)
If you want some cheap open track tires, look into COOPERS. I was referred to them by a guy that auto-X'd with them and was really pleased. Also, a good friend that works at discount said that from what he saw of the customers that bought them for road racing, auto-x, he had gotten nothing but good feedback (people saying stuff like "I'm buying these form now on"). So I decided to try them, the price was right, and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I bought mine at Discount Tire, they keep a very low stock of them, and they don't have them listed on their site (read below for more on this) but I got mine for $125 a piece for 245s (more expensive than Kumho's 712s, but ALOT better). Here is the COOPER page for them. The are called the Cooper ZEON X-2s.(they replaced the old high performance cooper COBRA LINE) http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/Prod...ype=UHP&id=223 TIRE TREAD CLOSEUP http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/imag...ge/zeon2XS.jpg the funny thing is I have heard COOPER makes tires for other tire companies. And while I was looking through http://www.discounttiredirect.com , I noticed that the Falken GR Beta FK-451 have the same EXACT tread pattern minus a few details and the SAME specs (i wonder if cooper makes these for Falken or vise versa) here is the link to the Falkens, notice how they look just like the coopers pictured above in the cooper link. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...ar=40&sw=false ![]()

Yes I am that guy.
KD probably would be good as it is the d=dry tire I ran KDW (w=wet) which is an excellent street tire for Houston, but ot so good in track conditions KDWS s=snow is only a snow tire so unless you this would probably be very bad on a track
