Houston area rear end shop recommendations

I've got a stock 1996 Cobra (140K miles) with the original 3.27 gear that apparently needs new rear end bearings: a shop that checked the diff oil said they noticed metal in the gear oil, and insist that it needs new bearings. Contemplating this work, I also thought that I would take the opportunity to replace the 3.27 with a 3.73 gear (daily driver, street use only). A couple of questions:

If I bought the parts myself, FMS has a kit (M-4210-B) that includes pinion and carrier bearings, shims, seals, etc. for ~$100; 3.73 ring and pinion gear (p/n M-4209-F373N) is ~$200.

The shop above quoted $400-450 labor. Using the above estimates, labor + parts would be about $700-750.

(1) Does this sound reasonable?
(2) If not, can anyone recommend a good rear end shop in the Houston area (pref SW, or Sugar Land loc) that could do this?

Thanks much!

Seems really high for installing gears. Don't you need a speedo calibration tool with gears as well?? Try Houston Performance, give them a call and see if they'll give you a quote.

Thanks, you're right -- I'd need a speedo recal as well ...

I have a set of 3.55 out of my '03 cobra if you interested in them. They have less than 2000 miles on them.

Make sure whoever does it ....
That they clean out the housing really well .... to get all the metal out!
Brake clean...
and lots of towels and air...
check the surface where the axle bearings ride on the axles...
and the rollers in those bearings...
If you are going in there might as well do it once
also if you are over 80k
I would seriously recommend a fresh set of traction lock clutches....
One wheel peel is no fun...

$250 is the most you should pay for gear install labor.
