315 tire questions.

Ok guys, I am thinking about running a 10.5 inch rear wheel. I was just curious as to how expensive the 315s are and if there is any issue with running a wider tire. Does it rub a/g anything? Do the tires come in contact with the fenderwell if you hit a dip in the road? Thanks alot.

I just got some 10.5 put on mine a week ago and I'm running the 315 tire by Goodyear (Eagle F1 GS-D3) 315/35 R17. I ordered the rims from LateModel Restoration (SCMC vendor ) http://secure.50resto.com/product1.c...ategory_ID=775
These are the stock Cobra style wheels, great price for the wheels. The tires you can get from www.tirerack.com for around $277 each, but the tires are your choice and I'm not sure if you're wanting to go with a totally different wheel or what!?

To the question about the rubbing! I've heard different story's, but me personally haven't had any problems. I put the H&R springs on, and I used a .25" spacer which I'm taking out Monday! I replaced all the Rear Sub-frame bushings with steeda bushings, along with the differential bushings (Steeda also SCMC vendor) The rear sub-frame bushings came with a low profile bolt that allows for wider tires cause some people have had problems with the IRS bolt and grind it down (you can see the bolt in the photos below). My tires don't rub on anything except for the very edge of the inner fender well, which will be taken care of when I remove the .25" spacer that isn't needed. Other than that, I'm happy as hell with the ride and the wide as hell tires! I've gotten great compliments on them and I'm happy with the whole set-up! You shouldn't have any problems. The only reason I used the spaces is cause I thought that the bolt might hit, but it won't and the spacers are causing the tires to rub, so out with the spacers and it's a go with no worries! Hope this helps David, good luck to you!

Thanks Jason. I hadn't considered running a bigger tire until I was leaving a stop light the other night and spun my wheels all the way through 2nd. I'm hoping that the wider tires will help me hook a little better. Now time to decide what I want to do; Kenny Brown suspension, JLT CAI, wider tires and rims, MAC H-pipe, ported Eaton, pullies. Decisions, decisions.

Are y'all using 315 on 10.5 just in the rear?

I've got 285's on the front and they just peek out.
Any pushing issues with 315 in back?

I know exactly what you mean! I've now decided what I'm going to do for the rest of my performance and whatever out come I have that's were I'm staying! Probably? I figure with everything I'm going to do I'll be somewhere around 600rwhp! But that'll be enough for me for now.

About the tires, the stock tires suck on traction, that's one of the reasons I ran into the curb when that idiot pulled out infront of me! If I had gotten traction I would have taken off straight, but the tires let loose and I hit the curb (dry road too)! Oh well, I got some wider rims and good hook-up tires!

I swear it is an addiction. I told myself that I wasn't gonna mod my car very much until the warranty ran out. Once I did the first one (MGW shifter) it has been downhill from there. But I bought the car to have fun with so that is exactly what I am gonna do.

The 10.5 wheel works great on the rear with the 315x35x17 BFG Drag Radials, complete with the 12" tread width -- hooks well, except on wet surfaces -- and no tire will hold the torque of an 03 Cobra on wet surfaces.
Clearance is fine, except when the car is on a lift, or airborne. The tire will hit the IRS bolt/frame without a spacer (I use a 7/32" spacer). No fender problems.
Hope this helps.

Attitude is everything. I bought several sets of tires for my IRS. Coudnt make any set work, rippd my new IRS out, put in a MOSER Enginering 8.8",bushings properly, excellent for SCCA or open track with the IRS, totally violent shifts on the 1/4 mile. Depends on what track your on. Half Shafts are high dollars, your going to change them, regularly. Face it on the 1/4 mile.

26X 10.5 X 15's here, I carry the front 4.5 Hoosiers a good 45' out of the hole.
Thats with tubular K member and tubular lower control arms. Helps i run BogartRacingWheels...front tire, rim combination is only 26 pounds. 90/10 Konis on the front end, QA-1 adjustables on the ass end!

Oh yeah, no spray whatsoever. honest.
Not a freaking valvecover lifted. Stock motor from the heads down.

Sometimes, you have to say w00p!

2003 - 2004 Cobras with the IND rear suspension Jason has got the shiznit on.
I worked it for awhile, he has it fit, This really is suspension relative. Read the earlier post, do a search, Look at ArchAngels Cobra, sharp car.
However, wont work for everone, depends on what you doing with the Cobra and most importantly, the year model. Pay attention

Thanks Jimmie, I was worried at first reading all the post about getting the 315's on the 10.5 rims fitting, but they work and the car still rides great! I was running it a couple weeks ago and went up to around 120 - 130mph and no issues with the .25" spacers so I'm going to leave it the way it is!!
