Any suggestions on how to spend $4500

Hello all. I had a question hoping to get some help with. I just recently got my 03 Cobra and I am going to use my bonus $4500 to make mods to it. What mods would you suggest. I know little about what would be good and need some help.

Well, what are you intentions with the car? Car Shows, cruiser, handling auto-x, open track, street power, drag racing? or simlified, do you want look, more handling, or more power?

That would determine where to spend the $$$ .

You are in the "upgrade the blower" range also. As in Whipple or KB, but you need to prolly get some more $$ to reinforce the rest of the car for the blower (fuel, tune, chassis stiffening)

oh, and if that was a Coupe, I would suggest selling it to me... Mineral Grey

450rwhp? or more? (yes I know that is a loaded question as everyone always want more power)

well, definitely go for a Whipple or Kenne Bell (prolly need to save a bit more). But... be aware of the fact that you should all the supporting parts for the blower upgrade. The most important being a tune, but also, a new MAF if your pegging yours, fuel system upgrades, cooling upgrades, chassis stiffening.. etc etc. Basically, make sure you make the upgrade safe from grenading the engine, because, even if its a built motor with forged internals, running bad a/f, wrong spark timing, or too much heat, can hurt it.

- Whipple or KB ($3,100)
- 60 lb inj. & adapters ($620)
- SCT MAF or MAF extender ($250 or $100)
- Flash Tuner w/ custom tune for your combo ($400)
- K & N FIPK ($175)
- Exhaust (prices vary widely)

That's a bit over your budget (becuase of the exhaust), but not by too much.

Of course this will lead you down the path to further mods that will be required. A clutch is the first thing that comes to mind.

My $0.02.

Paratrooper82nd,

Just some info for you, KB is offering a 10% discount for OIF/OEF vets and a 5% discount for all military members. Not sure if whipple is matching it or not but Amazon racing is offering a group purchase on the whipple. To get the KB discount contact them to get the details. As eveyone else has said get a GOOD tune and all the supporting mods.

Red03 is right Amazon Racing is doing a group purchase for the Whipple right now and is good towards the end of Feb.! For the satin black it's going to run you around $3015 shipped.
http://www.amazonracing.com/whatsnew.html

Give them a call, you will be talking with Linn, that's Rick's wife (the owners). She'll fill you in on all the details and everything else you'll need! I'd invest in a larger HE and if you haven't already get a CAI, JLT is a great choice! http://www.jlttruecoldair.com/Products.htm

Injectors, Fuel pumps, MAFXtender, etc.......

I see you live in Belmont! Trevor is in Belmont near the South Point High School, and I live in Stanley! If you ever need any help installing things or if you just want to cruise let us know! One of our friends John has a Saleen Extreme S/C.

Good Luck with all your mods!

You plan on going to the Dragday and Cookout? Cookout is at the Hilton's place on the 5th and Dragday is in Jackson, SC on the 26th of Feb. Trevor and myself will be going there, so if you want to cruise down with us that would be cool.
Weather permitting, we will be out on Franklin this weekend, we usually hang out at the BurgerKing on the west end! Trevor works up in Belmont in the shopping plaza behind the Waffle House there, he drives the White 04' Cobra. He told me he had sent you an email for us to get together sometime, not sure if you got it or not? He's seen you around town a few times, but has never had the chance to talk with you!

Cool, that sounds good. Does he work at the Eckerds there at the shopping center? I will hopefully have my car back before this weekend. They are replacing the heads on it. Had the dreaded tick noise. I am going to the cookout and would like to cruise up there with you guys.

blowing a tornado thru a straw

When I had my kenne bell put on there was a guy putting a kenne bell on his 03 gt at the same time he didn't have the dough for an exhaust upgrade and it sounded pretty funny trying to put all that exhaust thru the stock exhaust/cats. I dont know what his dyno #'s were but I think that they would not be that hot. Oh he had a stock intake too so he was sucking a tornado thru a straw as well

Yes, Trevor works at the Eckerds.
I hope you get your car back soon! We will be going to the cookout also, so we will get in touch with you before then. Here's my email address if you want to get up this weekend (jason.r.herd@rrd.com)
