Rock and Roll is Back in Houston

Rock101 had historic roots that stretched over 34 years of broadcasting. Many people grew up with it tuned to their radio station constantly, or woke up to the latest news from their great shows. The day it was taken was like a major disaster. You did not see it coming and you had no time to prepare for the change. Clear Channel has been known nation wide for doing things like this but until you re the one who is involved it will never take root. I for one believed we needed a new rock station myself, not that one should have been removed from the airwaves. Houston s rock community is mainly underground and has never gotten a real chance to shine with these cookie cutter stations that where taken over by Clear Channel. My petition was in the right place at the right time to be the one to get the most signatures. Every rock listener in Houston was in an uproar over the change and needed a place to express him or herself. I just proved a place to do that for they could get their word out to the masses. Early in, a prior abc13 article I said we might not be able to save rock101 but with enough noise we sure would get somebody to listen. I contacted Clear Channel many times about the petition and the many other sites requesting the return of rock101. They failed to listen to our outpouring for the station to return. The movement then changed and many people got frustrated and turned to another way to get rock back. The change was not to get rock101 back but to get a station of similar quality but improved from what Clear Channel had caused to it. There are many other groups who helped to get this done. Offthekuff.com(local Houston) a web blog helped to spread the word and continues to along with radio-info.com with all the information about any radio stations. Other groups include the bring back klol website and its offshoot RockHouston who helped to organized rallies of people interested in the same cause. I would like to think that I helped to bring rock back to the airwaves and I did spend countless hours keeping people informed of the information I received. But it was all of Houston who got this done. And all of Houston should be happy to have such a station back. Now I can only hope the format they pick for this station will be the correct one, but you never know. Houston is known for not holding on to its own history but I hope we can all start over again on this one. RockAid.com has done its part to get people together now its everybody elses part to get this station good ratings.

It's good to hear that the rock icons that we all grew up with are back

Feb. 15 on 101 or a different station? 94.5 The Buzz has picked up some of the slack with Mandatory Metallica at 10pm every night! Wendy Miller is on 94.5 also at lunch time.
