Exhaust Poll......

I've got the full Bassani set-up on my car....Mid-Lengths, X-pipe, and Cat-back! It sounds great now, and I was wanting to take off the cats to see how I like that! The Bassani X-pipe has the removable cats on it right now and I was wondering what you guys think? Should I put the off-road pipes on it?

If you don't take them off you will never know. I had to do it on my PowerStroke. Except it was the muffler I removed. Strait piping a truck is different but I could not wait to hear it both ways. Take the cats off.........

You're located near Charlotte, do they do the tail pipe sniffer test and the visual inspection??? I would leave them on, you're car will sound better in my opinion with them (and you don't have to put them on and take them off for inspection!)

I have a SLP X-W/Hi flo cats and the SLP loudmouth II cat back. I love the sound and it will turn some heads when I jump on it. When people give you a double take when you step on it at 65 MPH you know it sounds good/loud.

Cat or not to Cat????????????

We don't have the cats on our '03, running Bassani mid-lengths, Bassani O/R X-pipe and Magnaflows. It's a little raspy...so personally, I think the car will sound smoother with them left on. I know we all tinker for every extra HP, but in this case, I think at 450-500 rwhp...what 's 2 or 3 horses?? Just my .02.

They only do the sniffer test if the car is older than 85. What they do now is trip the ECU into a diagnostic mode, drive it and retest the codes. They will redirve it or drive the vehicle for how ever long it takes for the diagnostics to pass. They will do a visual inspection if the emissions testing pulls any codes.

I'm not really worried about the emissions testing, I have people to get me to pass with that!

I guess I'm just going to take them off and see what the difference is. That's the only way I'm going to know if I will really like it or not!

Thanks for all who replied!

cats or no cats

I've got BBK long tubes both on and off road x pipes and magnaflow cat back. I started off using the off road x pipe and curiosity brought me to try a catted x pipe I had left over from a 97 GT I used to have but for some reason I couldn't get it to fit the gt without hanging way too low. however I got the catted pipe to fit great on my04 cobra and it sounds mellower but better to me, and also picked up over 13lbs of torque and 11 hp according to my G-tech pro when compared to the off road x pipe! This is probably more of an indication that I need to add more fuel to my tune up but I rely on the tune that comes with the predator Diablosport instead of a custom chassis tuning shop's tune. to make a long story short more power and higher quality sound came to my cobra via on road pipes. try em both, it should be a simple 20 minute or less job, but I always think you should do testing before and after so you don't get caught up in the louder-the more power frame of thought. sometimes it's true other times it's not. however: if intimidation is a game you like to play, straight pipes will suit you better almost every time. LAY DOWN THE LAW ON SOME CHEVY'S, GO GET 'EM.

I think it depends. If you have a quiet CB such as Magnaflow then yes, but if you have a louder CB such as Stingers, or a LM1 then no. I think cars sound good relivitly loud, but not obnoxiously loud. I do think if you don't have to run cats then why do it. Some say they can feel a loss in torque, but I'm still making 12 more lb-ft of torque than hp.

EDIT: I just noticed that this thread dates back to 06. Sorry it was posted up front on this forum page.
