From what I have seen, its pretty much the dealer's call on how they want to handle modifications. Each dealer is different on how they look upon mod's. I suggest finding a different dealer to get service that is more down to earth about mods.

From all that I have seen, the aftermarket part has to cause the failure, for them to legally void the warranty (IE: you put a chip on, it leans the car out and blows the engine). Now, if the dealer wants to play hard ball and be a D**K, they can irrationally try to void warranty on unrelated aftermarket parts, its a pain to get a lawyer and go through the whole headache of getting them to cover warranty work, thats why I suggested that above.

Let me point out a misconception here: Ford (in this case an authorized SVT rep) NOT the dealership makes the call as to whether or not your warranty is voided by making modifications. The warranty is from Ford (the manufacturer) not the dealership that sells the car. Typically as stated previously the mods have to be contributory to the cause of the failure.

I do not think they could void the warranty on an engine problem on the grounds that you liked the sound from the exhaust so you constantly revved the engine which caused the failure. That would be a little far fetched (and hard to prove).

I had this problem years ago and went a little higher up the FORD chain to get the help i thought i needed. The dealer was not very helpful. They more or less told me to bad, its your problem not ours. On your problem i would look for another dealer, it doesnt sound like they will be very helpful if you had a real problem. I dont remember the # but maybe someone on here can help you with it.

Last summer my diff cover started leaking so I brought it in to get fixed. At the time I had magna flow cat back and a Steeda CAI. They replace the cover and reinstalled the rear end incorrectly (pinion angle was off) and i would up with noise and chattering. I brought back the next day with only the mileage from my house and back to the dealership on it and they told me too bad that they wouldnt take care of it because i had too many mods after they made the condition worse. I contacted another dealer and they told me no problem and they fixed the problem with no issues.

In my opinion, not to defend the dealerships, but most of the time they do not have the man power to fix or even look at the issues. I thing the Ford dealerships that are SVT certified are bucking the SVT policy. I have had shoddy work done on a non-SVT vehicle by a certified SVT dealership which cost me more money in the long run since the motor siezed at the end of the extended warranty and that of the repair (3 months). They did tell me they overheated the motor and warped the heads, so they shaved the heads down. They did a poor job with the head gaskets which failed 3 months later. Let us just say that in the past when I had warrenty work done on my other vehichles, it would cause another fault or failure. If a part had to be removed to repair the defect, the part that was removed would fail down the road within a few weeks. It all depends on what is the issue. There is one main reason why I did not bother to purchase and extended warranty with the 01 or the 04. I do not want re-manufactured parts used (they do not use new parts on extended warranty repair, and guess where the re-manufactured parts come from).

Warrenties are implied. They can be changed at will. The inspector can claim the damage was a factor of racing either by speculation or by searching data-bases that may list vehicle entries or names of drivers that have signed waiver sheets for the event.

Most if not all of the BS you get from the service department is intended to push you away from having them repair the vehicle, even if they know what the real cause is for the failure and especially if they know it will cause them to loose some money on the repair. If you did not have a warrenty claim, they would gladly take care of you. The SVT dealership would charge you up front for what they think is the cause, and if they can prove it is covered under warrenty they will reimburse you the expense within 30 days. I have my own opinion of the dealership service shops. Most of those opinions if not all of them are reserved for some of the local dealers. I may buy from them, but would not want them to repair anything.

SVTcobra04~ As everyone's been saying, you should most certainly find a new dealership. I went to a local SVT certified dealership and didn't take any of my mods off (CAI, exhaust, pulley, chip, TB, etc.) and they fixed the "stalling" issue I was having. Not only were they more than happy to help me but also offered to give me a loner car (I declined) and detailed my car. This is also coming from a dealership that I didn't purchase my Cobra from so there are still some good people out there. Granted you have to search for 'em but they're around. Good luck!

Dealerships....There are some good ones out there.

The one I bought mine from in S.C. was awesome. Said they would help me with the Pulleys if I wanted them to. They didn't have any problems with Mods done on my car when took it in for a O2 Sensor light appearing. Then took it to the dealer closer to my house when the Power Steering fluid leaked out all over the place and they were really butt-heads about it. In fact, couldn't even determine where the leak was occurring and didn't fix it. So then took it to the dealer I purchased it from and they fixed the problem in less than an hour.

So I drive an hour out of my way to get the better service from now on. Worth every penny in gas, plus it gives me a chance to take a cruise on the Hwy. anyway!

Ricart Ford in Columbus OH. installs anything SVT offers. They will waranty anything they put on your vehicle. They install this stuff on brand new vehicles that are on the show room floor. They like to race and understand what is going on.

Also on the same note, if you blow the motor at the track and the slicks are still on the car and the rubber behind the rear tires well you are SOL.

Just putting an exhaust on and getting denied,,, I would definatly find me another dealer.

My dealer here in Ky has done me very good. In fact when I blew 3rd gear out of my 91 GT the dealer actually installed my Hurst shifter back on to my new trans from Ford. No Questions Asked..................
