My basic understanding (and it is just that...basic) of the benefits of coilovers is it allows you to increase the effective wheel rate without running a high spring rate (and compromising ride quality). In order to get a high wheel rate with the "stock" setup...you have to run a very high rate spring (900-1000#) which pretty much makes the car ride very rough. With coilovers you can have excellent handling and a nice ride. The adjustablilty is also a huge benefit -as Tom said.
I really think some of the experienced guys could explain this better (Shugg???, Adam???, others?). Bottom line is...if you want to fix the problem with the stock Mustang front suspension...coilovers are a move in the right direction. Of course you might as well spring for the K-member, control arms, bumpsteer kit, torque arm, panhard bar, etc. while you're at it. ![]() He He He....... I plan on doing the "band aid" approach with used parts until I can afford to do it the right way **cough...Maximum Motorsports...cough** (had to throw that in there, Tom). ![]() |

Ok... I talked to Chris at MM.
Here's what we came up with... Front: Bilstein Race Valve struts with 425lb springs $369 Rear: Bilstein Cobra R shocks with 650lb rear springs $429 IRS bushings $50, C/C $199, and their basic Subframes $119. He said that should get me started in a big way. Now I need to talk to the wife ![]() How does that setup sound to you guys? Craig

JOHN THIS IS TOO MUCH FUN !!!!
I can't believe these Yankee imports can't figure this one out !!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They all have corduroy's in the closet!!! ![]() All these questions about suspension and set ups, you guys have one of the best suspension guys around right in your back door. Don Rositch at www.mustangdon.com He raced for Griggs out west for several years and worked in the shop for alot longer!!! He changed my car 100% last year after setting it up. Coil overs basicly pull a ton of weight off of the front end and drop the spring rate by combining it with the strut. But remember one very important fact!!! You have to have a VERY GOOD SET OF CASTER CAMBER PLATES to run coil overs. You put a ton of stress on the strut towers with the coil overs!!! I bent a set of MM plates last spring and if they had broke I would have had a MESS!!!! John, SORRY buddy I couldn't resist!!! AI EAST Asst Director COBRA #17 |

Craig, when I went to coil-overs I did it at the same time as the Griggs stuff. Huge difference, but I have no idea what part made what difference. If MM told you that's the way to start, then that's the way to start. They know there stuff.
And yes, this is a sickness. I just got back from picking up the new ride (thanks Jim). On the way there, I called Griggs and ordered some more stuff: World Challenge Rear LCA's Panhard Bracket That goes with what should be here next week, which is: World Challenge Frame Kit Torque Arm Bracket And, the Metal Supermarket delivered this today: 96' 1.75 X .120 DOM tubing 10' 1.00 X .095 DOM tubing 4' 2 X 2 square tubing So, let the fun begin...

Re: JOHN THIS IS TOO MUCH FUN !!!!
Hey Hoov, are you still running MM plates? If Griggs will allow me to run MM plates and still be eligible to get the contingency money WHEN (not if) I win the points, then I'll do that.
Both Griggs and MM make plates plenty strong enough for coil-overs, but the MM seem to have more adjustability.
