I did the same thing and replaced the insulation. Before we bought the car somebody decided to paint the strut tower brace. They shut the hood and the paint stuck to the insulation, which left a big ol' rip when the hood was reopened.

Yesterday at the show I was talking with a few vehichle owners. I asked one who had alot of chorme parts under his hood what he thought about painting the letters in the liner. He replied that there are kits available for doing such, and there are stainless steel inserts as well. He also stated that the adds can be found in just about any mustang magazine (I have yet to see one). His liner was not painted or had any mods to it other than a large flag hanging from the hood. I just thought that would be of interest. (if I find anything I will list the source)
