1 bag, 1 helmet and gloves. The Hertz renter is for me to run on track. I saw a Shelby Hertz in Rock Hill Saturday morning. I pretended not to see it as the guy was checking out my ride but it looked really sweet. Then I looked at my hood and saw the colors change and was glad I was in what I was in!

Just did a DE at MSRC in a V6 Coupe rented from [censored for my safety] and it did great on the fast corners. It understeered badly in tight uphill turns, partly because I couldn't find the darn o/d kill button till the last run. My last run with the o/d off was quite decent, although I could have done with stickier tires than the 600+ wear rated ones. I had to put about 6 psi just to get them to match the label on the door. Great chassis though, very solid, and no bad manners.
I think it would have done much better at MSRH.

With bigger brakes, a manual tranny, and better tires, a V6 Coupe would be a pretty decent track car.

I let it slip about a SVT DE to the Mini and the pimped bimmer crowd. There is a at least one M3 that seems to like tangling with one Mystichrome SVT Cobra Mustang, right Jimmy?

Yep That would be Troy. Nice guy.... he was a lot quicker at MSRH than our first tangle at TWS...

I could not run away from him anymore!!! BOTH his driving and his car have seen some big improvements!!!

I got a little something up my sleeve this time though... It may or may not be enough... That's all I'm saying

Hello Everyone... New here... Just signed up for the event... can't wait. My car is basically stock... is there anything I should be concerned about (cooling mainly). Also, I will need to buy some tires for this... can someone recommend a good tire for just getting started?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome aboard!!

Just make sure your fluids are all good and fresh, especially the brake fluid. If you have not bled the brakes ever or for a while, I would bleed them just before the event. Also make sure your pads are at least half of their original thickness, especially on the front!!

Tires need to be in good condition with no less than 4/32's or so if they are street compound.

If you have never done anything like this before, you are in for a real treat!!

Good advise there from Andy.

I would not worry about cooling. It will be November and probably not that hot at all. Unless you are coming from a racing or auto cross background you will probably not be leaning on the car hard enough to get it into limp mode.

After (not if ) you decide you like doing this open track stuff we can give you economical pointers to help get your car adapted (they are a hell of a car bone stock!!) to open track.

How many miles do you have now? If you need tires there is a very real possibility that your front pads are a little too close to use at an event. Don't throw them out!!! Just put a new set on if they are 1/2 gone, and you can put them back on to finish them off on the street.

Tires and brake pads are something that we are always watching for deals on.

I currently am running Sumitomo HTR ZII tires, they are now my street/rain tires but before I had track rubber I used them and really liked how they performed.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Model=HTR+Z+II

I have since found a better tire(also more money )... that I will be running when it's time to replace the Sumis.

Falken AZENIS RT-615
http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_rt615_t.htm

There is a check list that the car must go through... down load a copy and then you can line up someone to do your check out.

You may want to address the pads and tire issues first if you know they are border line.

This is without question the most fun you can have in a car........... with your pants still on!!!

I had very good luck with a set of Nitto NT01's at the event last Dec. They were on a GT at the time but I think they will do just as well on a Cobra (I plan on finding that out ASAP).

I have a couple questions of my own for the track junkies out there...

I have been looking at getting a new set of track wheels and tires for my Black '03 Cobra. (I have an "ok" set now, but the SVT can handle bigger and better)......... I've been thinking about FR500 wheels wrapped in Nitto NT01's but there are tons of options (wheel height, width, color, tire size, etc.).

My flexible plans - Anthracite (sp?) FR500 18x9 non-deep dish with 275/35 Nitto NT01's.

What do you guys think about the Anthracite vs. Silver vs. Black FR500's on a Black Cobra? I figure the 275/35 tires will clear ok, could I go any wider???Also, any particular pads you recommend to use with the stock brakes?

I am planning on running in TDE Oct. 21/22, any tips for my first time to TWS?

If I haven't asked enough questions, let me know... I'm sure I can think of some more.
